One Sheet Delta Wing.

In the vein of Mike Springer's one sheet of foamboard planes,
I built a prototype one sheet delta wing.

It is an armin style wing one piece 30" span, 15" chord

This is a good size plane for my equipment

I have about a 2"x30" sheet left over. Also used 2 chop sticks for motor mounts. 7-12" bamboo skewers. I took a lot of build pics and have the dimensions and cg worked out.
Going flying now though. First flights at a real club!!!

Have ideas for version 2.

Went out flying, fellow rcgroups member sportflyyer15 was making it dance and the battery fell out dragging the wires through the prop.

I'm going to have to do some surgery on the windings and see if I can find the loose end in the armature. The airframe fluttered down unscathed almost.

More pics forthcoming.

Delta Wing (0 min 50 sec)

I had replaced the motor with a Keda 2730 1700kv. Had to do a little surgery as the mount was different. The old motor will have to be rewound.

My flying skills are less than steller Maybe not enough coffee was in my system. Maybe there is too much coffee.

This is what it takes to put one together more or less.
I started with a 3x6" piece of paper. Folded the corners in at 45⠁
Running with that idea I marked the foam board with 45⠁ pencil lines.

Cut through the paper and just into the foam. Peeled the paper back. off the triangles

Folded the corners back using a steel square and piece of plastic pipe. I then peeled the center section of paper off.

Glued a bamboo skewer to the foam with white foaming Guerrilla Glue and misting all the parts with a water. Laid some wax paper down and covered it with heavy weights. I use some lead cupcakes.

The second cross brace is too long for one skewer so I used two and overlapped them in the center.

After curing I took off the weights and peeled off the wax paper.

Next I used two bamboo skewers laying them point to point at the folds, I used a fairly liberal amount of Guerrilla Glue and then folded them over. I glued them one a time weighing them down.

I cut a 14" tapered strip of foam and glued it in between the skewers. Then glued the rear seam.

I removed the foam from the outside. It helped to remove paper over the folds if I just lightly dampened the paper with my mister. I wanted to see if can balance in about the right spot. Just in front of the foam spar. Note my motor mount. Short sections of bamboo chop sticks.

I am gluing the bottom two skewers in place. Keeping the thrust line square to the centerline.

After yesterdays flight where my battery fell out in a fast roll. I replaced the motor with a heavier (24gram) motor {because that is what I had)

Version 2

I changed a few things with my design and built up a second one. I moved the main folds in about 3/16" so that the top can be closed. The center section has nearly a symmetrical shape with the tips turned down a bit. It weighs 8 oz with a 1300ma 2s battery.

This one has a Strong motor KEDA 2203/36 19g, 1700 Kv

Nice! 8oz AUW is quite amazing. I have a 30" delta - not one sheeter but it's around 16oz AUW. Must be because went with a 50g motor and 3S 1800 battery. Flies well but lower weight would have made it handle better.
Also, I have a foam spar for thicker airfoil.
Here is a quick video:

I can barely keep up with my small motors. I figured out that what I do is when I get "behind" on controlling I tend to skip ahead leaving the plane to fly on it's own till I catch up.

What do you do to prevent scuffing when landing on asphalt.
Great plane.

The pusher prop really makes a lot of noise from the turbulence of the wing. A characteristic of the breed.

Thanks! I have a 1600kV motor on this wing with 6x4 prop and it's kind of noisy but yes, as you said it's what you get with the pusher prop. At least it's not as noisy as prop in a slot.
There aren't many options to avoid scratches and scuffs. Usually I use DT packing tape on the bottom surface and that holds the wing quite well. You could also extend the V stabs below the wing surface to keep the wing elevated above the asphalt kind of like flite test versa design.
