NEW OMP Yak 55M 60"

Today I finally maiden the new OMP Yak 55M. This is of course the prototype and we don't expect the production models to be here until March. I am very pleased with the two flights I got today. The plane flies very similar to the 120cc version of the Yak 55M. Will try to get more information on the plane this weekend.

Hopefully next week or two I will be getting in some of Flight Power's newest batteries. Looking forward to trying them out on this bird!

I hope to also have this plane at the Arizona Electric Festival that is coming up later this month. Just need to see if I can make it.

I would but I just built an EF 60 Yak-54. Maybe at some point I'll add to my Yak collection.

I've seen some OMP planes up close, and they seem to be well built. Though I've never seen any 60"ers. Where did you find this one?

This is the prototype model. There are only two in the US at this point. Planning on getting the production models in around March. I have 5 flights so far and really enjoying the airplane. If weather holds up the next two days I'll get video of it flying.

Attached is a photo of the RTF weight with the battery. Not too bad for a prototype model.

OMP Yak 55M 60" Electric (1 min 28 sec)

Shot a video today. Here is a preview of a full video coming later in the week. This was just from one flight and want to get a few more flights on video.

Enjoy

Quick bump for you my man.

This is the best looking Yak I've ever seen. Absolutely gorgeous.

Will be watching closely, especially the weight... if it can be set-up somewhat lighter I'm going to be very interested...closing in on 6lbs though, will be a deal breaker for me.

Good luck

Needs the more scale "half wheel pant", they might be called "wheel fairings", THEN it would be the best looking 60 Yak on the market. It does seem a bit on the heavy side.

Looks like hes running 70c 3800's. You could drop some weight going to say 30c or 40c 3300's. Just a thought.

Honestly I wouldn't worry about the weight of a plane too much.... I have seen planes that were just a bit heavier that fly just as good as the lighter airframe also last way longer. You got to remember this is a prototype and I was using a heavier battery pack when I weighed it. I will try to get the weight of the plane with the smaller packs tomorrow. I am thinking a 3000 to 3200 pack is the best for this bird. I am getting near 6 to 7 min flight times on the 3800 pack.
