Bill asked me over on OSE whether I would do a build thread on this boat. So here it is.

This is an AC Models Blast Cat. It is 40 inches long. I hope to run it in Q Offshore, though the boat may be too heavy to do so, we shall see. It weighs 7.4 lbs empty, so should finish around 12 lbs. If it doesn't work for Q I will repower on 10S.

This hull is noted to be exceptonally stable, but not the fastest boat on the pond. It has won many trophies because in finishes every heat. The old quote comes to mind " In order to finish first, first you must finish!"

Power from a Neu 1527/1Y turning a 450/3 on 6S2P.

The 1527 looks a bit small in this size hull.

You're right Ray. The 1527 does look a little on the small side in there. This hull looks more like 2028 material. (since you have one already).

I have a set of WRP 5" rail mounts for a 1527 if you need them. I'd be willing to let you use them for free, and if you decide to keep the 1527 in it, sell them to you later on.

I think a 40" hull is just too much for that power system. Something in the 34-36" range would probably work a lot better with that motor on 6s2p.

I ran a 1527/1.5Y on 10s in my 47" Promise Hobby mono originally. (that's what the 5" mounts are from). It worked pretty good (faster than the replacement Lep 5692) until the day I over propped it and let the magic smoke out of the motor. Burned 2 of the 3 esc connector wires right out of it.

I always wanted to try a Blast Cat but back in the gas days it was one of the slower cats out. With FE power that might change but I think that the 1527 is going to run very hot in that hull considering the fact that it is a wet running boat to begin with. I still like the look of that hull though.

The reason I purchased it is it's one of the few big boats that meet the 40" length limit for Q. In open cat I would much rather have the new full canopy R42.

I am also considering a 2215/1Y for power on 6S.

You might even want to try one of the "proteus" motors that KB is selling. The shorter can in delta configuration is 1280 kv and a lot less expensive than the Neu. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1725984

Maybe not the lighter "electric" layup, but the 36" hull for sure.

Hey Ray, one 2215 left at clearance price!! $399 and they have ONE 1440kv left which is a perfect kv for 6s in my opinion. If its a tad lowish to you just run an x452/3 - x455/3.

I'll second that thought.

Starting the mockup phase. I'll move the motor back and forth to get the best weight distribution.

The "butch's block" will not be used, it is however the best tool I have found for setting motor angle with minimal stuffing tube bend, and makes a perfect hole when used as a drill guide.

Will this be making a debut at Ackerman this Sunday Ray?
