So happy with my same-size Wilga from the same factory, so I've been waiting for this one...

Just wish Hobbyking could have kept the same colors/decals as EasySky, much more scale:

Decided to give it a go despite 15 degrees F and a steady 10-12mph breeze.
Managed to do two short 5 minutes flights befor my fingers were frozen stiff.

Took off in less that 3 feet on the first take off (you can see the wheel tracks on the first picture) without flaps and on the second take off, I applied full flaps and with the head wind it basically took off on the spot

Charming little plane - heading straight into the wind with the flaps down, I had a nice steady flight backwards

Surprisingly unaffected by the wind, and plenty of power to get around. Nice tight loops, and stable in slow flight with flaps up and down...

I had trimmed all surfaces neutral mechanically, and balanced it on the stated CG and it did not need a single click of trim in flight. Flew with a 950mAh 2-cell.

EasySky Yak-12 is my first RC plane. I am using it for training. Do you think this is a good trainer? I like scale real-life models, so not into buying trainers which dont exists in real life.

I would say that it makes a good second plane/aileron trainer. Had spare parts been easily available it would have been a very good aileron trainer on par with the best out there...

As a first plane it can be a bit to much to handle - no self leveling/no dihedral, very low stall speed and gentle stall characteristics though... If you get someone with flying experience to set it up and trim it for you, it might increase the chances for success. Take of the cowl, and reinforce it on the inside with fiber tape/packing tape before the first flight - it is really flimsy, and will crack on the first bad landing if not reinforced.

The HobbyZone Champ is a model of an existing plane, and is an ideal first plane And it actually looks very good in the air...

I understand you very well when it comes to scale models - I also like my planes to look like the real thing. I relaxed a bit on that when I found out how fun it is to fly 3D foamies/shock flyers , but I still prefer 3D planes to be models of real planes over free fantasy ones.

Yeah.. I'll level with that.. broke the cowl in the second flight.. now I am flying without one.

Also, it makes me happy that I am able to fly this plane now after 2 or 3 bad flights..

EasySky needs to improve their QC on their servos!!!!!!!!!
The elevator servo in the Wilga was faulty upon arrival, and today the aileron servo on the YaK failed!

I was flying away from me, and was about to turn back when nothing happened when I tried to bank. My first thought was that I had lost radio contact, or perhaps a brown out (it was at the end of the flight, and a cold day) - but I soon realized that I had control on all other channels than the aileron. Got the YaK turned around with the rudder, and got down without any damage to the plane. Aileron servo not working, pushing on the arm would make it move a little then stop responding...

Funny you mention bad servos. Ours, on the maiden takeoff the elavator servo froze in the up position. Nice loop into the ground. Good thing we were flying on snow so there was no damage. Changed servo and back to business. What a great great little plane! With DuBro parkflyer skis what a fun little winter plane

BTW, my flap servo started to make funny noises during my flight session on Monday...
Unplugged it and flew the rest of day flap-less, have to change it before next flight - I'll put in something with more trow for more flap movement, and guess I'll swap the two remaining original servos while I'm at it - just to be sure...

I ordered extra landing gear, have one for skis and one with wheels. Which makes me think, this is going to need floats!

You gave me an idea - I just realized that I have a set of unused floats from a similar sized Edo Model Cessna (lone gone)... Must check...

It was very windy for this little bird, on the other hand it was just as if not more manageable than the PZ Stinson we had out at the same time.

I have just received my Yak and put it together. Assembly was uneventful even if I spent half a day. First reason I am a slow acting beginner and second reason I like to check twice...

I find it quite uneasy to push the battery far enough front to achieve proper COG as per notice. I had to add 20 gr in the cowl.

Did you face the same problem? Is the 48 mm from LE COG appropriate?

Will report after maiden.

Yes, does require extra weight in the nose. But does fly nice like that. And pay attention when deploying the flaps the first time! Likes to climb real quick!
