PaintBall Wing- All purpose Foamie Flying Wing.
Hello and welcome... (EDIT: I would to suggest you read through as much of the thread as you can because some new ideas have come to light and there might even be and updated set of plans further in the thread)
This is a blog for these Foamie Flying Wings that we have been having so much fun with. It's not really anything new. It's just how we do it. Everyone that see's them fly wants one and this is just to help guide them along through the process of getting one flying. It will save me time in the long run from not having to explain it to so many people. ![]() Dis-Claimer and Credits. KFC - Chris DeGraaff started bringing wings to SEFF to sell (see HoJazz Videos) Matt Kloss Dissected his wore out DeGraaff wing, made some changes and built a bunch of them to use for paintball shooting at SEFF 2011. I had volunteered to help out with the event. I got permission from Chris DeGraaff and Matt to present this build on RCGroups. I want to keep the blog on point. Feel free to comment, but dont get your itty bitty feelings hurt if I delete a post or 2 to keep things on track. I know guys will ask for tiled plans. It's not something I'm familiar with at all. If someone else wants to step up and make that happen... then they can send it to me and I will post it here as well. Enjoy Here is a Grayson Hobbies set of links for the electronics if you are interested; http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...ies-p-427.html This Motor combo^ http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...er-p-1739.html This receiver http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...vo-p-1405.html These servos^ its more than you need but you can build a second plane or have spares http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...nch-p-817.html 2 of these^ http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...0x47-p-95.html 4 of these ^ http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...ck-p-1467.html 2 of these^ http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...s-c-5_219.html You will also need a charger. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here is a place to get colored box tape to decorate with. They dont add much weight but they add a lot of strength and look great. http://www.tapebrothers.com/Colored-...apes-s/218.htm |

Here is a comparison of the Klos wing and the DeGraaff wing profiles....
I'm not sure exactly what is inside the DeGraaff wing so I have not finished drawing it up. Maybe later on.... |

The most stressfull part of the build
With 3 of us building a wing we were able to put the top sheeting down using hot glue. (Have you got your strings in to pull the aileron wires through in there?)
First we pre-bent the skins where they go over the spars to create a more pronounced Upper airfoil.... we repeatidly checked the fit and adjusted accordingly. (we also shot some great stuff foam in strategic locations for strength.) We used 2 glue guns. Lewis glued the spar while I glued the firewall , riblet and trailing edge.... Then all 3 of us quickly pulled the skin in position and held it with our hands till the glue cooled down. The top sheeting has more curve beeing bent over the spar, so it comes up almost 1/4 shy of meeting the bottom sheet. ^This seemed to work best at the edge of my table. Repeat for other side After its all said and done you take a yard stick and a hobby knife and cut the trailing edge true with the top sheeting. Then I suggest you tape around this joint for strength. |
