I wanted to try a 35mm EDF so I started with the Mini Super Bandit plans, then down sized them and went with more F-20 style flying surfaces. Here`s the end result, ready for some test flights before doing some paint and decals (if it lives)

It has the room and airflow needed for a 35mm, but since I don`t have one yet, I`m going to fly it as PJ right now. The plan is for a Skyangle 35mm on 2s, but for now it will get a Micro Stryker motor/prop on 2s.

AUW aprox 90g to 110g depending on lipo size
Tailerons with 9g servos for control

Well.not much to see, but I took some pics. I`ve been sorting out the cg and rearranging stuff, so pardon the mess of wires. The rx is at the back of the radio compt, in the V of the ducts. Then the esc will go in the middle and the lipos in the very nose. Going to have to run a pair of 2s 180mah to have enough weight in the nose, so I`ll make a Y cord for the lipos. With all of that the AUW is still only 109g, so less than 4oz. Not a super light weight, but I want it to fly fast and handle some wind, so it should be ok for that.

This little project also has another purpose. This model is an aprox 1/4 scale model of my big Tiger Sport project that`s been on hold for a while. It`s pretty close to a primer only maiden, but to be honest, I`m kind of scared to fly it. So I`m building some smaller versions of it in foam, just to be sure about the cg. And to just get a feel for the flight characteristics that the big one may have.

The big one is a BVM Bandit-sized EDF. 80" length and 64" span.

Glad to help. I've been hooked on edf for about 5 years now. There's always something new to play with.

I hear ya. Just temporary. Hey, even the 262 first flew with a prop because it's jet motors weren't ready yet

Very nice knife! The little guys can be a lot of fun!

I got in a quick test hop earlier today even though the wind was 20 with gusts to 25. and my LZ has lots of turbulence when it`s that windy. The CG was good and it had plenty of power on 2s. Since the wind is forcast to be here most of the week, I decided to cover and paint it to see what kind of finish I could get with packing tape and Fusion paint.

I also picked up a 4/4 prop and tried the motor on 3s. I need to check the amp draw, but it looks to me like I`ll have some pretty exciting performance when the wind dies down.

I still need to do the wing and glue it on, but the rest is done and came out pretty well. I`ve been digging around for a decal sheet that I use to have that would look great for a military style look. haven`t found it yet.

The finish and 3s will put the AUW near 130g.

I`m going to use the first airframe to sort out my first micro edf power system, but I`m already tired of the boxy fuselage from the intakes back.

So I decided to see how hard or easy it would be to shape a real sport jet looking rear fuselage from a solid block of foam. At first I thought about a full fuselage that would be shaped on the outside and then split and hollowed out.

But since the thickest size I have is 1" and I didn`t want to have to deal with glue seams I decided to try to make two halves and then join them with the nose section to create the full fuselage.

First impressions are promising. This part took me about 45 min to make and weighs only 3.5g. I got a nice shape at the intakes and I added a little foam CA to strengthen the very front edge. Also when my Styro Spray gets here, I`ll see how much weight it would add to have a nice tough paintable finish.

I can say this for sure. My second micro edf won`t be a box.

What's wrong with boxy micro EDF's?.....

Those fuse halves look great. It makes an amazing difference to the looks huh?
