Flip 3D Conversion

Hi,

I was planning to convert this beautiful airplane for a year. Finally got the budget and time to do it.

Eflite Power 46 on board. I didn't want to order supplies from the hobby shop to mount the motor ($$$) so I found this solution: Lamp hardware! not very expensive and you can buy it at Canadian Tire or any hardware store...

ESC is a Phoenix 60.

Had to put some weight in the front to achieve CG.

Still need to complete with a MPI switch.

Made a few runs the other day and the plane flies very well. With a 4S 4200 Pack it has plenty of power for pattern flying with an APC 12X8 but I will try a 13X8 for 3D and acrobatic figures.

Reporting back from the field. I've put the MPI switch and a 13X8 propellor. Also using a 4S 4100 Lipo from HobbyCity.

Fantastic performance! I can easily fly for 10 minutes with lots of acrobatics and the battery is barely hot.

With Epower this plane is great. I'm planning to have a lot of fun with this aircraft.

Could you give some more details on the "lamp hardware"? What is it?

I'm referring to a threaded metal tube that is often found on ceiling lamps; the tube will usually go through a plate and a tiny bolt will be screwed on it.

They are sold with a variety of lenghts, i.e. 1 inch, 1.5 inch, 2 inches. They are easy to cut with a Dremel disk to fit your specific need.

Once the tubes were cut I added washers at each end to avoid plywood chipping. This way you can really put a lot of torque.

All this motor mounting was done with my regular hardware at a minimal cost.

Made a few runs yesterday and today, this plane is so crisp and precise, does exactly what you want, goes where you point it. Extremely large rudder and ailerons make manoeuvers a charm. With this setup I have enough power to get tired before the battery drains out.

Just found that I needed to bend the landing gear in order to increase clearance for the prop. The rain has washed out most of the snow on the lake and the ice is rough and uneven so I scraped a couple of propellors lately...

What is your AUW? I have a power46 and like to hear yours is performing great! This way I'll know what 4s can do with what weight.

I have a Power 46 sitting idle also and have also like d the looks of the Flip 3D, hmmm, curious also on what your weights might be. If you're ever curious and are lacking a scale, any of your local mail stores, eg. ups stores are usually more than happy to let you throw it on their mail scales.
