Fishing Boats of North America

That's my new dream- build a fleet of fishing boats that represent most everything that's fished out of our North American ports.

Let's see, we have (without getting too esoteric):

  1. Grand banks schooners
  2. Eastern rigged side trawler
  3. Western rigged stern trawler
  4. Modern long liner
  5. Monterey clipper
  6. Tuna clipper
  7. Gulf coast shrimper
  8. Sport fisher? (I dunno, too flashy...)
  9. Orca! Gotta have an Orca...
  10. Alaskan crabber
  11. Lobster boat
  12. Great Lakes fish tug

What am I overlooking?

Pat how about the Shrimp dragger Midwest put out.

Being from a Great Lakes state you have to be familiar with the mackinaw boat too (used before fish tugs) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mackinaw_boat.

Ever see this web site?

http://www.mels-place.com/

Page 24 first 3 pictures is the model I am building now. I have the actual Gulf Craft blueprints which I of course modified for my model.

You will have to poke around to find other interesting information.

Pat, you better hit the gym and take your vitamins. You're going to have to live to 137 or so by my reckoning if the list doesn't get longer.

Naw, just have to retire and then kick out one a year...

And besides, I already have a half-finished Andrea Gail, a Tara Dawn hull (which I'm not too happy with), and a Midwest lobster boat kit and their Eastern dragger just sitting on the shelf, and plans for a Monterey and a skipjack, and I know where to get the sharpie...

Thanks!
And sure that schooner would be loaded with dories... though one of those r/c rowing fishermen in a dory would be nice too!

What, no bass boat? But then there are a couple of variations. An east coast or sea bass boat is basically a lobster boat -like Midwest's Cranberry Isle Lobsteryacht. And then there is the high horsepower outboard johnboat style.

Pat, A sportfisherman built on a 30'' midwest lobster hull is not to fancy and can be as weathered as a work boat. Many of those up here are multi use boats. It's a very easy conversion, add a flying bridge and a pulpit up front and a removable fighting chair. That simple.
