Build Log
haoye global hawk

just got this kit from sonic electric...not much in the way of instructions...still hope to have it assembled by the weekend...tested the fan with an e-flite 6 2700kv motor on 3 cells...it drew 17.5 amps...i'm thinking this model (more a glider than a jet) needs more thrust than speed...so the 180 watts into the 68mm fan i'm hoping will be sufficient...thoughts?...

Specifications:
• Wingspan: 78.7 in
• Wing Area: 393.7 sq in
• Fuselage Length: 30.2 in
• Height: 10.75 in
• Weight: 34.93 oz

gunracer, thanks for doing the build log, very cool. The 180 watts should fly it fine, this is my EDF Ripmax Coyote that flies on 155 watts like a warmliner

It will actually be faster than you like for scale. Main thing it should be quiet and smooth like the real ones

thanks for the interest guys...like the full scale version, i'll be using her as an av/ap platform...i was surprised by how smooth and quiet the fan was even at wot...fearing ripping the wings off, i will definitely not be looping or yanking and banking her around...at least not intentionally...

I'd not heard of this kit before. Very interesting. It looks like an ARF is it? How complicated is it to build if not. I'm very new and unskilled at all this.

i think it's considered an arf...and being an arf, it shouldn't be that complicated to build...even without instructions...which i just found out is the case with my kit...it also looks like i'll have to mod the ducting a bit to fit the fan in...things just can't be easy i guess...progress pixs forthcoming...

This is basically a glider with a straight wing. CG will be very close at 1/3rd back from leading edge.

thanks bob,

with the relatively short wing chord, short tail moment and somewhat longish nose, i wasn't sure...when she's ready, i'll taxi her around at 1/3 from the le at the root and go from there...

in another post, you mentioned you and danny were pondering fan placement...as huge as the fan is, i don't know where it could fit other than what’s shown below…i think danny said they set one up as a pusher...makes me wonder…nevertheless, i’ll plod along and try to keep her an edf model as best i can…

i would start at 25% or 1/4 of the span to be safe, atleast at first.

that fan is decent after a good balancing!

wow!!! If you play your cards right, ten minute or more flights would be possible.
Cut the throttle at 500 ft. and glide like an eagle. LOL!!!
I want some vids. When I bought my haoye 51mm fans I almost bought one of these.
A nice camera ship!
Good luck and best regards, Joe

Ok Guys

Went to Danny's house this afternoon and just left! We spent all afternoon testing his motors and fan combos. Also left with a Hawk and a SU-27!

Building mine tonight to take Suday at the Costa Mesa Jet together. I'm usung the 7 blade Haoye and Sonic Electric 3850Kv motor and an Impulse 3300 3S pack. It's gonna have the Hobby-Lobby onboard video camera and I will patrol the airfield Sunday
