Shuttleworth Collection Polilkarpov flying

I went to the Air Pagent at Old Warden aerodrome yesterday. It really was stunning afternoon. We had 2 Gloster Gladiators, almost the whole range of Hawker planes from the Cygnet to the Hunter, Avro, Miles, Bristol, SE5, Sopwith Pup Lysander, Polikarpov, Edwardian planes. There was a Feisler Storch flying sideways and hovering, a Fauvel AV36 glider doing stunts including loops. Fan-bloody-tastic!

I think that's a Hawker Tom tit and a Tiger Moth flying with the Polykarpov

If the winds are light enough, Old Warden always puts on a good do. The evening air shows are good - I went to one where anyone in or on a pre war vehicle in period costume got in for nowt. I saw a huge wicker hamper being taken out of the back of a 30s Talbot tourer, and later they had a big trestle table set up for their picnic - which included champagne in an ice bucket; and the table even had silver candleabras on it

The Shuttleworth collection really is a gem. All sorts of unique, historic planes. Plus, you get right next to the runway so you get a terrific view and you really feel the noises.

I was there to see the DH88 Comet, flying for the public for the first time in a few years since a u/c overhaul. They landed it very gingerly, at flying speed, not a 3-point landing at all. Then it took a long distance to slow down enough to put the tail wheel down. Fantastic plane!

Nick - in the photo you posted, there is an odd looking wing parked against the distant fence. What is it?

It is a Fauvel AV36, designed in the 1950s.
The show was truly splendid. Here's a very professional video of some highlights including the AV36, that someone put on Youtube: Watch it with the sound on.

I'll be there in June '15. I hope that they will be flying then.

Yes, he missed out several great planes. It was whole afternoon of new things for my to-do list.

Here's a picture that I took..
