Scale Build-off 3: 45"-50" D.G. "Shockwave"

I decided to join the fun and build up a Darryl Greenamyer "Shockwave".

He started this project many years ago, and in the ensuing years it has stopped and started again. The entire project is now up for sale.

It was designed in the quest to be the first 600 MPH (!) Reno racer.
She uses a modified Sea Fury wing with new center section, later F-86 hydraulically operated tail group, T2 Buckeye landing gear, and a custom fuselage. Power is intended to be an R 4360 4-Row radial with Power Recovery Turbines AND Nitrous Oxide with ADI , producing in the area of 4600 HP!
Prop is to be Lockheed Electra blades on a C130A hub/spinner.

I'm not set on span/size yet, as I have to do some drawings in order to get sizes correct....need tail, wing and engine dimensions first. Maybe H.L., maybe retracts, depends.

Nice subject following along your racer scheme. I hadn't heard of this one...looks like a monster!

Wow, looking at the office (cockpit) location.....you'd have to have a pretty good set of stones to strap this one on too!

Yeah, and she has some odd shapes...elliptical wing with swept stab and fin. At those speeds they wanted all hydraulic surfaces.

Dang Mark I swear I was just looking at the Shockwave website not more than three days ago thinking what a cool project it would make! I even surfed around hoping to find some three views or at the very least a side view. Alas, no such luck. I will be watching this one like a hawk!

Another weird looking race plane. Looks like this one is right up your alley Mark!!

Looking at the cockpit location on the full size illustrations, don't know if I would want to be taking off or landing that plane any time soon. Kinda reminds me a bit of the XP-37 with the cockpit so far back.

Retracts smetracts! LOL I fly from a long grass schoolyard field....belly landing is SO much easier! Anything under 60" just flips over....
The GP5 is rarely flown due to the landing gear and associated weight....then theres the expense....

We'll see. If anything I will draw their locations on the plan and let the next builder decide. My Zero, even at 61 ounces, throws well and lands nice w/o arresting hook, I mean landing gear.
