Those of you that have done the retract mod, did you find that you had to add about 2-3 ounces to the tail?

Got my retracts in and working well. The main legs (as of right now) are too long and I would prefer a better AOA. Gonna shorten them and modify the wheel wells to account for the shorter leg. Got plenty of time with no good flying weather for at least the next week.

I use landing gear struts that were used for the SR-71&
F-117 Models. Gives me a nice AOA on takeoff. I had minor mishap
on Thanksgiving. Repairs have been made, pics forthcoming.

Have been running on 4S, but 5S batteries should be arriving tomorrow. Stock motor / fan but upgraded 80A ESC.

Any 5S users experiences (on this setup or others) most welcome
Awesome pics. If I go 5s, I plan on using a CS fan with a 100 amp ESC.

Yah, excellent pics! 'Specially love that one, about 6" off the deck.

Hoping you also have another motor, cause the stocker is going to real unhappy on 5s batts, real quick. But until it does express its' discontent, you're gonna have a real bullet!

Dunno. I have run one (a typical 2839, 2750kv) on 5s in a different plane, with a 4--blade fan; it ran pretty well for 4 or 5 flights, until one good WOT run of 8 or 9 seconds and that was all she wrote. I wasn't kind to it on the other flights either, so maybe with a bit of mercy it will go the distance.

If not, there are alternatives

Hammer, thinking your Phantom will now become The Hammer . That will be an excellent combo.

I've really enjoyed my F-4 this season. I had a minor mishap this past Thanksgiving.

Oh, Dang!

yeah, been there too! Kind of a miserable place to be for a day or two....then the urge to reclaim gets strong. I'm thinking the "intact" pic is the result of your reclamation.

Good stuff, Will. As cranky as this one can be when fattened up, it still looks like a warplane is supposed to when flying.

Nice job on the fix

This plane has really inspired me too this summer, had a few bad experiences with previous EDFs (almost all on launch) but this one (fingers crossed) appears to be a keeper.

I've really fallen for the F-4, so much so i've just ordered a FlyFly 90mm version. Time will tell how that progresses.

Keep us posted on your 90mm FF Phantom either here or on the 90mm F-4 thread. I, like you, like this one and am considering the 90mm version too.

F-4's certainly fly and land differently than most other edf's. Once you get a hold of these flight dynamics and understand her, she can be a good performer and a lot of fun to fly.

LOL. Yes, notice the hot glue gun in the repair pic. It wasn't hard at all, as long as I don't crunch the nose, I can usually fix an EDF in less than an hour.

I also have a FLY FLY F4. I've flown it once. I've added ailerons to
mine. Still looking for suitable landing gear struts.
