New F3B model - Radical Jazz

I was chatting with Martin Weberschock yesterday and he told me about his new model the Radical Jazz. Ennio Villani flew it to 11th place at the WC. Apparently this is Martin's answer to the FS3.

Wingspan is 2.91meters with a similar wing area to the FS3. It also uses the same smaller tails from the original Radical. All up weight is something like 1900 grams. I don't have details yet on the airfoils.

The Germans seem to think these smaller models are better in very calm conditions, like those that are common in central Europe. There is some physics to back this up, as it is possible to hit the same wing loading at a lighter weight, so an optimized launch setup could result in a higher launch at that lighter weight. It is certainly hard to argue with the results of the German team, though I do suspect that pilot preference has a LOT to do with model selection, rather than a real competitive advantage.

Here are some pictures I found on the internet. Maybe sometime early next year we will have some pictures of a model on US soil

Hey Brandon,

From what I saw, LDS was the standard. Though I am sure Martin would build you whatever you want.

You can have LDS from http://www.cnc-extra.de/. It's an option so I assume otherwise you go conventional.
I don't know about RDS.

I had some great conversations about this model with Ennio Villani while in Germany. He was really impressed with the models speed. It has me a bit excited.

The cnc link might be my imagination, sorry. Looking back at my emails from Martin I can't see that information now.

Tom, not your imagination. I read the same about LDS on the French website where I poached these pictures of Ennio's airplane.

That's reassuring!

Ennio's model weighs 1900g if that is useful information. According to his picture on facebook (team italy f3b page).

Hello,

The photos were taken in Montauban by Michel Castel with Ennio Vilanni agreement.
