LSD a lightweight DS and slope design

Hi,
as my other project got stuck a couple of times this year i happend to have some time at hand to try an idea i had for quite some time.

Every summer on those lazy days we talked about a light weight sloper for some fun DS when all other ships stay groundet.
Hence the name - Lazy Summer Days

Eventhough lightweight i wanted a reasonably fast flying design of modern outline.

I defined my goals:

all parts Milled on my little cnc
aprox 165 cm wingspan
aprox 600g
modern outline and section
geodetic wing construction
DP custom section as usual
twisty wing to make things a little more intresting

So early Okt i hit the keyboard and about 12 days later maidened my mark one LSD.

What shall i say?
It flies really well as long as kept on speed, roll need to be improved for acro, even thermals well.
Withstands even a bungee launch on a f3b siced rubber.
Just keep on the speed.
Quite addictive really

Mark II is beeing build by my Buddy Toni fuse greatly improved, wings need only slight changes.

DS ability needs to be determined, i am beeing a little buisy at the moment.

Pics do not show actual version, i will ask Toni to post some.
These will only give you an impression.

enjoy

That looks really cool. Around here there aren't too many slopes I'd think about landing a plane with a built up wing, though.

The name definitely fits the look of that wing, it's kinda psychedelic looking.

The ribs appear to be of sandwich construction.

My only criticism is the fat aft fuselage, but I realize that will provide robustness while remaining lightweight. I could get used to it, but I'd rather see a tapered composite tube used there.

Because my slope sites aren't balsa friendly, a CNC'd foam wing structure would be nice. Take a look at Gordon Johnsons' first venture from indoor to slope, he has a lot of experience with "skeletonized" foam airframes.

Hi,
ribs are of 2mm ply, fuse is from poplar.
aft of fuse happened because i wantet to get the proto into the air.
Has been changed since to have a little more pleasing lines.

should be robust enough for its intendet purpose - lightwind conditions.

i wanted to build a design that works without specialised composite parts.
wood and stuff from the DIY stores.

time will tell

Is it DS'able?

Nice!

Ever since the "Gentle Lady DS discussion" I've had it in the back of my mind that there was a place for the pursuit of built-up DS...

I like the design a lot flo... I wonder if there's a way to do a honeycomb structure and whether that would be any stronger than your structure or the traditional perpendicular structure?

Built-Up RE ds has been done successfully and is eye opening. I was recently thinking of building a DS-specific "woody" but now I don't have to because of the awesome LSD! Thank you for building it, I hope to see some DS video of it soon!

Ok no plans....!
A question to Flo:
How do you design geodetic structure.
Is there a method or a program or simply you use a cad program and do all the work involved?
Anyway Very nice looking wing Flo
Thanks to share it.

Hi AGO,
sorry no files availible..
as for designing.
First design the "Hull" and then create ribbs by "slicing". Adding spars and tubes.. done
