Medusa Motors?

I'm looking at putting a 36/50/1300 in a TRex 600 after reading about the 1600 on the freaky site. The 1600 is out of stock, but the 1300 and a 12T/13T pinion on 6S or a 10T on 8S seems to be do-able on the TRex. I'm trying to find something to use instead of the problematic Align XL motor. Anyone try Medusa motors in helis here? RCHover is expecting a 60mm version of the same motor early next year. Will a Medusa motor run too hot or do they just run hotter in general? I'm flying in 90-95* temps all year round and like to put 3 or 4 flights back to back and don't want to wait on cool-downs like I would with the Align motors.

That motor is not going to give you any king of 3D performance. Itís only rated for 569 watts and you need something in the 2000 watt range for 3D. If you push it hard it will probably overheat and burnout.

You need a motor weighing about 300g that will take at least 80 amps and rated for 2000 watts or more.

Neu Motors are a good choice. There are many choices depending on the battery voltage you want to run. Also when making a battery voltage decision make sure your ESC is rated for that voltage. Stock trex600 ESCís have a 6s voltage limit.

Well, my wimpy flying is only pulling 1000W peaks on my E550 and Z30. I expect to see 1500 on a 6S TRex. Yeah, I agree that the weight and watt rating is low but I see HC flew it and liked it, and a few others liked it as well. Personally I think it's going to be pushed too hard as well. If I can figure out how to get that Z50-1150 from Norway to my door then that might just be the ticket! I don't think the Neu's top my cost/performance ratio list, but they seem to be the only game in town until the 60mm Medusa shows up.

Basically I would like to get another heli that shares the 6 cell packs with my E550 so I don't have all these different dedicated battery/heli combos. But, going to the other extreme, I've been thinking of a TRex on 680's with a Rap90 TT and using two of my 6S packs in series and an Actro 32-3 or similar. Go big or go home, right?

I'm looking at the 100A Jeti knockoff for ESC and a bare heli kit. I may end up dropping down to 570-580 blades if the thing bogs too much on 6 cells. If I can't find a decent power setup for this thing I think I'll just build another E550. Too bad as I really wanted to see what all the hype over the TRex was.

Yes, Medusa's comments regarding the watt rating and heat dissipation is what was written about on the HeliFreak thread. That the motor ran hot, but handled the high temps well without falling off and that a heatsink is a must. I was curious how this motor worked because the watts and weight is low, but the amps seem okay and the guys using it say that it flies equal or a little stronger than the XL motor. But, to balance that out, I also heard of two or three guys using a Z30 in a TRex600 and saying that it was stronger than the L motor!?

Hmm, 159 euros is about $255 and that's going to be in Neu price range with shipping!
