Have you test run the boat yet? I have started, slowly, on Troy's twin screw version. Hope to get the rest of the smaller details, done on mine. Hope all are having a good holiday, and Best Wish's, for 2013. Charlie

Someone try a direct drive Integy 55 or 65 turn motor. 27 bucks at Tower and zero gear noise.... Very similar to a Pittman but lighter, replaceable brushes with a low amp draw

I don't think it will be much more power. Just less noise and lower amp draw for less $$$$.

I agree, it could be a lot quieter, I am hoping, that when the gearbox parts get seated, it quits down. The Aluminum frame, a quality that I like, is probaly not helping. The one in my 25'' boat, is just a low wirr. CB

I wrapped one in Dynamat and it made a ton of difference.

When gear box noise (unsealed gearboxes) gets a little much I have put some powdered graphite on it (a very very little bit) you can get it in little tubes for lubricating car door locks. If you use too much it gets everywhere (especially motor brushes), or in a sealed gear box it will form a gummy residue.

Thank's for the idea. I have only run the boat 3 times, so I figured it would take some time for the gears to seat. I pre-oiled the output shaft bearings, before putting it in the boat. It seems that most pinion and spur gearbox's, need some wear in time. It is getting better, but I agree with DH, it could be a lot quieter. CB

I wasn't knocking your boat Charlie. Just trying to get the word out on the Integy motors. Have been using them for years. There is a 35, 45, 55, 65, 75 and 85 turn option so pretty much anything for scale boating. PatMat did a nice thread here....

I use a 55t, in my 25'' pushboat, and, a 3-1 gearbox. But you are right about the Truckable, if I power up, you can still, clearly hear the gears. CB

Progress Photo's

Here is some of what I have gotten done in the last few weeks. Sorry the photo's are not better, but I was not able to get photo's outdoors. Using the stern bulwarks, allowed for the tool box not to be fouled by a tow line. I do not know what the wiper, originally fit. Charlie
