Cheap $41 5.8Mhz - Got it to work

First, the lame directions were wrong.
The printed DIP switch settings were different between the TX & RX.
After some testing, I just set them to the same up/down positions on both the RX & TX.
Not bad for $41.
I'm using an old Aiptek DVR, that has an AV in, as a ground viewer.
The feed is the 480p live out from a Mobius cam as it records in 1080p.

Video Coming soon.
On the test flight, the stock 2db antennas dropped signal at about 100 yards.
Of course I need better antennas.
I'm currently working on getting more tilt clearance with the gimbal.
The Mobius USB fan-out sticks too far out the back, so I'm fabricating an angle plug.

I was still a bit off on the TX frequency.
After some more experimenting, it now goes well over 200 yards.
So far the best combination seems to be CH6 on the TX with CH8 on the RX.

Well, the 3" screen was not practical, so I'm now using a 7" TV mounted on a tripod.
Here is a test session:

CX-20 -solid video platform -FPV

A pro photographer once told me: "Shoot a lot and just keep the good ones."
The fall colors are not really showing yet.
So, it’s time I started working on making better looking aerial videos.
This time I cut out some of the boring parts.

A big tree at the north edge of the driveway blocks my line of sight in that direction.
When I flew north I had to rely on the first person view screen for control.
I put a peek at the FPV screen at the beginning.

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the view.
(It’s 1080p, so it shows best full screen.)

Accidental control signal loss RTL.

This flight video was mostly controlled using the FPV screen.
After turning back I had by back to the CX-20.
I had accidentally lined up myself, my truck, and a big tree blocking the control signal.
That triggered the lost signal RTL.
The FPV was still good, but when the quad turned away and the gimbal tilted back, I knew I had lost control.
The arming & take off zone was under that big tree, so when it came overhead and started to descend, I toggled the GPS SWA off/on to regain control.
I had tested the in-flight signal loss RTL and manual re-bind to the controller on the bench, but this was the first time for real.
One continuous shot, no edits.
Post-processing was done to fix barrel distortion and clip the start & end.
I hope you enjoy it.

Very nice. You didn't loose your nerve when RTL kicked in and managed to save it. I wouldn't dare to fly over those trees.

Which Mobius gimbal and controller?

It was exciting!
Camera: Mobius with the normal lens A
Gimbal: Low cost GoPro style modified for the smaller & lighter Mobius
TX: Stock CX-20 radio

The Video is post-processed with "ProDRENALIN" to straighten barrel distortion

Lesson learned - Don't switch between LOS & FPV during takeoff.

JAWS, the great white pine tree got me.
FPV crash (2 min 47 sec)

It's all repaired, but I now fly carefully around JAWS.

To find a lost drone.

First, a directional antenna for the ground station.
If GPS fails, and you loose LOS before you get manual control, you can use the ground station as a radio direction finder.
