ASK21Mi 2M PNF Glider from Hobbyking

Just released glider from Hobbyking. I love the retractable motor pod. Hope it actually works well though.

The Hobbyking ASK21Mi scale glider is made from tough EPO foam, features super fast assembly (only 3 screws to assemble the whole model) is easily transportable and has other unique, practical and exciting features that makes this one seriously good value for money Plug & Fly Model!

At over 2 metres, this is a good size glider and for flying off any surface, the ASK21Mi has no less than 5 wheels, including a sprung, steerable nosewheel and wingtip wheels! It also has in inbuilt tow hook for use use as an unpowered glider but what really makes this model exciting is the servo powered motor pod that folds neatly behind doors and into the fuselage, making for a streamlined and scale looking glider once you have powered up to altitude. The powerful brushless motor being mounted out of harms way, gives you the option for a powered take off from the ground, grass or pavement, this glider can handle it all!

Specs:
Wing span: 2028mm
Length: 1010mm
Flying Weight: 780g
Motor: Outrunner Brushless Motor
ESC: 20A w/BEC
Servo: 4 x 9g + 1 x 48g
5 channel (aileron, throttle, elevator, rudder/steering, motor pod)

Requires:
Your Own 6ch TX/RX
1300mAh 3s Lipoly Battery

retractable motor looks alot like the mechanism on my ST Models DG1000. The ST mechanism works quite well. A steerable nosewheel will be interesting for ROG takeoffs

Hi,

I just crashed my hawksky. It was easy to fly it. My mistake was that i tried to fly it inverted and crashed badly otherwise it was ok to fly. Now i want to buy Hobbyking ASK21Mi Glider EP, EPO. what do u suggest is it easy to fly? will it fly like hawksky.

Waiting for your replies

Thanks

Yep the pod works well on the DG1K. The pod can be managed in different ways, and if this model uses a similar mixing board then it can all be controlled with the throttle.

Personally, mine is controlled via a switch and I use a servo slower unit to stop the pod from slamming back into the bay.

Anyone thinking about getting one of these should probably have a look at the DG1k thread and pay special attention regarding the pod.

I just ordered one for $114 shipped from US warehouse. I grew up flying full scale gliders at Harris Hill Soaring in Upstate NY. The Soaring Capital of America. There were four ASK-21's. I can't wait to get this thing in the air. I already have the ST Models DG1k and LOVE it. Very excited!!

Sometimes I get to pick my own shipping method, and sometimes HK defaults to Parcel Post. Sometimes the tracking is accurate, and sometimes it is very upsetting. Not only did I not get the option of going for a faster shipping method, but my ASK-21 is scheduled to arrive next Thursday. Maybe I will get lucky, and UPSP will deliver ahead of schedule.. What?? It happens... I HATE waiting for new toys.
