scratchbuilt RC hovercraft

I started building this hovercraft two months ago and now it's finally finished
Length: 60 cm
Weight: 850 grams
Thrust motor: 630 watts
Lift motor: 315 watts
For the steering I used a mini Turnigy servo
Both motors use a seperate battery, a 4s 2200 mAh for the thrust motor and a 3s 1300 mAh for the lift motor.
Here are some pics of the finished hovercraft:

Nicely done! Can you post some shots of the underside/skirt? I'm considering building something similar.

This are the only 2 photos that I've got from the skirt and the underside. Basically the hovercraft is a foam plate with a hole in the bottom for the lift propellor.
Then I made an "air chamber" where the air from the lift propellor comes out about 1.5 inches smaller then the foam plate an with holes around the sides.
The skirt is made of separate segments which are sewed together and then attached to the foam plate and the underside of the air chamber.

Thanks! Looks like a good simple and effective design!

Finally I managed to get a new motor! This one is way less powerful than the one before but that doesn't matter because it was overpowered and with this little 24 grams motor and a 2 cell 450 mAh it is still quiet fast. I also changed the rudder assembly because one the first test run it just didn't wanted to turn. I tried making a video but the quality isn't that good and it was filmed indoors. Soon I'll make a better one outside when I can find some spare time!

Here is the link for the video:

It should run on water but I'm a little afraid to test it because I don't want water to enter the holes.

You are welcome and thank you for the answer. Another impressive item was how quickly it maneuvered. After watching your video I looked up some other hovercrafts and found a skirt-less type which reminded me of the Star Wars hovercraft.

You can put small holes in the bottom edge of the skirt to drain water if you want to run on water regularly and it shouldn't affect hover performance - a few of mine have them.

jpcwebb,

Thank you for the information and I will one day attempt to build one. As a child I have always wanted a hovercraft that would go over water.

Er, ok, I was referring to Ryan21w's comment "I'm a little afraid to test it because I don't want water to enter the holes"...

Thanks it does indeed maneuver pretty good, but the faster I go the less responsive it becomes.
Thanks jpcwebb for the advice, I might try that out when I got over my fear
