outrunner help

This may be a stupid question. But what does 480 mean.
For example the Park 480 Brushless Out runner Motor, 1020Kv.

I might be missing something but I looked at all the numbers and used the old electrical equations, but none of these give me 480.

Not all motors use these numbers and I would rather not be restricted to the ones that do
I need one that has a max of 300 motor type, and it would help to know what makes a motor 300.

300, 400 and 480 are hold-overs from antiquated nomenclature trying to equate brushless motors with a Speed 300, Speed 400 or Speed 480 brushed motor.

Very roughly, off the top of my head, I believe Speed 300's were good for 5-8A (50W-60W), Speed 400 about 10A (100W-120W) and Speed 480 maybe 15A-20A or so (150W-200W).

If you look here: http://www.e-fliterc.com/powersystem...essCharts.aspx.... you can see that an E-flite 300 is rated for 85W max, E-flite 400 for 100W-140W and an E-flite 480 for 250-275W.

If you are in a competition which limits you to "brushless 300 or less" you can look at motors of around 25g (the 3W/g rule of thumb indicates around 75-85W max.).
