Converging thrust vectors - Quad design

Hey guys,
Has anyone ever tried to tilt/angle the rotors to help stabilizing the aircraft? If you look at De Bothezat design, it does use this principle. Here is a picture illustrating the concept:

My $.02 - It is a very old idea that as far as I have seen provides no benefit. It seems like a good idea because it is simple and intuitive. But given the level of sophistication and speed on the closed loop in a controller there is not enough benefit to give up the loss of lift and flight time.

Wouldn't that only apply in a ground effect situation?

Ground effect might interfere in a different way, but in theory this principle would still apply.

I have thought about it, but just thought it added a little more complication than is needed on these aircraft.
