Tower Hobbies P-51 - arming the motor
Received my first warbird, a Tower Hobbies 40" P-51, and except for the cowl (which was held on with 4 too-short screws) everything went together well. No problem binding to the receiver, and getting control of all four servos. But after binding, and when powering up as usual, I only got a single beep (nothing after that) and the motor didn't work at all. However the motor does work IF I do the following (which I pretty much discovered by accident): I turn on the Tx and connect the battery--- I get a single beep (at this point all servos work, but not the motor). I then move the throttle to max, get a single beep, then cut the throttle all the way, after which I get 4 beeps. At that point the motor works fine.
Not sure what's going on here or if this is normal for this airplane. The manual says the motor arms without any calibration process except to turn on the TX and plug in the battery, so I'm not seeing what I'm experiencing mentioned anywhere in the manual. There was no separate manual for the ESC.
I haven't flown the airplane yet but everything seems to work, except for going through this weird sequence to arm the motor. I should probably accept that it works and just be thankful, but I'd really like to know what's happening. If anyone knows or has an opinion about what is happening here, I'd love to hear it. Thanks,

iirc, flyzone planes and at least the great planes sabre have that sort of arming sequence for their esc where you move throttle all the way up and then back down again. makes sense the tower hobbies p-51 would have something similar. just a thought - your throttle trim is all the way down, right?
here's the dedicated thread for your plane: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1342189 maybe they can confirm that your plane arming is normal.

It's normal--every Tower plane that I have does this. I assume it's a safety feature, which I've come to appreciate. I sometimes swap out other companies' ESCs and replace them with Tower's just to get this feature.
