"Box Fuse" Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR MK1

For my next adventure in "box fuse" building I wanted to try something that probably most wouldnt think possible with this method of construction...a Harrier
I have been wanting to do a Harrier for quite some time now, but couldnt think of a way to get all the complex curves without some convoluted complicated foam bending, or some serious hot wire action. Then it hit me...do a multi stage "box" and sand it to shape
Well here it is, and I'am very happy how this one came out, just about how I envisioned it. Believe it or not it came out extremely lite too, and "should" fly good.
I will be powering this one with a little SkyAngels "9000kv" motor mounted into an ArtTech 30mm fan unit with six blades...a little testing with this set-up tells me it should have plenty of poop to get it moving through the sky

So here are the specs:

WS..............12" (wing area about the same as the Mig-17)
Fan..............30mm
Servos.........2 X 3.5g
Cntrl.............Tailerons
Batts............3s 460mah 45c NanoTech
Foam...........Dollar Tree Ready Board
Wght............? dont know, dont care...but its lite

Here are the build pic sequence and plans, again this is actually a fairly simple build, I spent more time laying out the parts, cutting them out and laminating them together than I did sanding, the sanding was actually the easy part this time. I still have some LW spackling and finish sanding to do, then just need to add the "make it go" stuff...Iam chomp'in at the bit

here you go, enjoy

well thanks Robert, I wouldnt object to getting my hobby to pay for itself, but till then I dont mind posting my plans free for all to build with, be cool to see somebody build one of them, that would be pay enough for me

maybe I should change my user name to "JoeBoxer"

HK sells a foamy Harrier, but its 70mm and a bit big for my flying area, so this one should cure my Harrier "jones"

Way COOL !!!
Can't wait to see what's next ...

Could you go into some detail on where you get your initial views from and how you scale them up (or down). It looks hand drawn but do you use any CAD in the process ?
Thanks.

thanks jumo004,
I find 3-views either in one of the many aircraft books In my library or pull them off the net, then sit down with a calculator and run #'s till I find the %'age that looks good and then start laying it out on 1" grid paper. I draw all my plans by hand, I dont do cad. I also get photos of the full scale versions for reference while drawing and shaping to help get a good "scale looking" appearance

That is really a beautiful model. You're quite a sculptor. Looking forward to seeing the EDF and radio gear installed.

thank you very much,
dont really need to be a sculptor, all it really takes is to be able to round off the corners, anyone that can shape a canopy out could do this easy
