A couple FYI's
If you order a replacement motor= it does not come with heat-shrink.
If you order a replacement fuselage with electronics= it does not come with motor or anything showing you where to solder motor wires.
(Both the Night Vapor and Ember fuselage with electronics come with a motor).

I would think Horizon could do a lot better than this????

Nice and usefull report I was waiting!
It is a pitty that new brick is just ~0.5 gr lighter.
Does someone try actuators on MV? With actuators you can easily get all RC below 1gr.

Any more information about thrust and such? I figure the "classic" 10 grams of thrust that people measured with such a motor.
I'm doing research again since I want to build on my succes with a P40 walnut that I built for Plantraco equipment years ago. I want to make a same-sized T28 Trojan. However I doubt if I'm able to fly a 16" span, 15 gram aircraft with Mini Vapor equipment..

thanks Gordon, once again!

You could run a DT receiver and actuators on the MV airframe. But at that point, you might as well just build an airframe for the $43 it would cost for a MV replacement airframe. Expecially since that may not come with a motor and gearbox.

3-Port Charger

I was hoping to make a 4 or 5 port one but the chargers were bigger than I'd hoped for. Used a 4AA battery holder with power switch from RadioShack($2.29) http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062253 and a 5pc USB chargers from Bidproducts($8.95). Can't find them now and there site is a joke to search for something. Anyways there's 3 charge settings 20, 40 and 60Mah. Took the battery charger plugs off my old PZ chargers and soldered them on the USB chargers then wired the chargers to the 4AA battery holder. Worked like a charm and I'm staying within the MV battery charge limit. Any USB charger will work if you can find them with a low enough charge rate.

MV charger charge rate

Is there anything special about the charger other than the lead hanging off?

The manual says 15-20 min charge time which would imply 100 mAh charge rate so I should be able to use it w/ any other UM charger.

Did anybody measure the output to check?

Cheers,
Gabe

mini vapor servos

The 3mm mini vapor servos measure 16 ohms coil resistance. These little
servos put out nearly as much thrust as the AS2000 linear servos.
I hope HH will come out with servos using the 3mm motors and
mechanics - the servo weight should be around 1 gram wo/wires.

Measured mine after yesterday's purchase of BNF. Started charging the battery (after 5 minutes of flight) and got at 69mA, which went up for the next two minutes to 75mA. The rate of rising current had slowed considerably by then so I stopped my monitoring there. Considering a 30mAh, 25C battery, 75mA is a safe charge rate, and I don't believe it would have reached the 100mA calculated above. After all, the battery maybe have a 30mAh capacity, but you could never use it all even when flying to LVC. The only time I ever used all of a batteries capacity, was when my Champ was stuck in a tree for 9 days

If you can find the correct motor fet leg on the MV RX then you should be able to use one of these flashed ESC's.

Do the carbon fiber props from RC Foam produce more thrust than the stock prop for the Mini-Vapor? I presume the CF props are more durable.

It sounds like there is a decent following of the mini Vapor. I still need to ask- should I buy one? Is the mini recommended?
