To all a very happy New Year (has been here for round 10hours already)!
- Arrowshooter Nice canopy! Yep, the problem of balance can be a pain: however, for use with either the standard tail, or the BL mod tail, I found the easiest answer is to: - cut off the last 3cm of the 450 boom (in combo with the F45 tail, it looks a bit silly anyway imo) - lose the horizontal support bars - use a MUCH heavier battery in the nose (I use 135g or 160g, could lift more) - and, of course, some hot glue in the nose (reinforces it, too). Crash(es) - substitute a clump of grass for the juniper, and one of my main gears went the same way. But only about $2 ea at LHS, instead of slow boat from China now. And, for others thinking of travelling down the 45/450 path - my own thoughts so far: - the F45/450 definitely looks good, and flies better than any basic EH200 mod (imho). Actually almost dangerously so, in a way, as you tend to put the heli at distances (and in winds) totally unsuited to FP. It's good - very good - but NOT CP. Damn near lost it 200' away Boxing Day. - the BL tail conversion works, but (due I suspect to the much greater motor power, and inertia of the full 450 mod) the Turnigy 1811 is just not up to the job with any of the props kindly suggested by others here. Oddly enough, the stock brushed tail is OK (but not much to spare, either). Will order better from HK, and try again. - the belt tail option isn't really suited to the F45 PCA, again imo. Works much better with a 6chan Rx/Tx/gyro: but then, of course, it's a more of a modded HK 450 than a 45/450! - the Align 500 landing gear fits, and will take any punishment (been crash tested a few times now, always passes intact with flying colors). - for those considering the BL tail conversion, I notice the Xtreme converters seem to be getting very thin on the ground. E.g., Helidirect no longer even has a listing. And I don't know of any other supplier. More later!, and again, good flights: smooth (or at least planned) landings to all here in 2013 . |

Question people...I think I jumped the gun on the f45... I have been flying a cheap little 3ch and was hooked. After researching I order a f45 a few days ago.... I have never had a 4ch heli....should I get a mini 4ch to practice with (v911 or similar) or ever a 4 ch cx (esky lama v4). Or should I jump right into the 45? I've been looking at the v911 and for under $50 it looks like a lot of fun....

The more I look at the v911 the more i Iove it...I think I'll go ahead and add that one to my collection... For the price, it can't hurt! I feel like maybe I can go slow with the f45 and venture out a little further with the v911.... My 3ch is fun but its reached its potential...

I currently have a 2000mAh battery and am looking to get a couple of more. DO you know how high I can go on the mAh? I was thinking of 3000mAh.

Will the Tx from my f45 work with the v911? I ordered the f45 a few days ago but wanna pick up the v911 for more learning...I can get just the heli a title cheaper if I can use my f45 Tx....

Question for BThirsk
I picked up a Hobbywing Pentium 40A SC for my copter project but just could not get it to work. It would setup and bind just like the Turnigy Basic but would not operate properly. Most of the time when I gave it throttle it would just bump, but sometimes it would throttle up (I had to punch it) and I could keep it going up to full throttle until I throttled all the way down at which time it would reset. From there I sometimes could get it to go again, but most of the time I would have to rebind the whole system.
The only thing that pops into my head is that it has a "switching" BEC. Could this be causing an issue between the PCB and the ESC? Unplgging the red wire had no effect. I want to rule out incompatibility before I return it for a replacement. Thanks in advance if you, or anyone else, have any ideas. |

Unfortunately, the F45 Tx only works on the F45. Also, no other Tx will work with the F45.

Good to have both
Although I got my v911 first, and had a chance to do some learning on it before getting the f45, the f45 is actually easier to fly because things happen slower due to it's size. The v911 is so small that it reacts very quickly, but if you mess up, you are almost assured to not have broken anything. The faster my reactions get by flying the v911, the easier it is to handle the f45 when I fly it. I will push my learning curve on the 911, then see how the f45 reacts to the same inputs. If you get a v911, invest in a 9116 transmitter from hobbypartz.com, it's only $11.95 to your door, and you will love your 911 so much more.

https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=14665 But by using the stock HK canopy (instead of Align450 Plus), I had no probs with a 3000 (ex car) and 13.4 cm length. I'd suggest around 170g as a ballpark upper weight though. |

The other thing to do is check all your solder connections. One poor cold solder connection will cause start up problems. I guess I would start with one thing at a time and keep going till the problem disappears. Good luck and let us know the solution. |

I can't wait to see the final product up and running well done. I am in the process of working out parts etc to upgrade mine to BL and I think I will go for the 450 way of doing it I just need to source places to get the parts that doesn't cost an arm and a leg for postage. So Oldoz where and what would you recommend? |
