Do you plan on making it yourself or store bought? Do you want the drive line at 0 degrees or ? What size prop and what type of boat.... a picture if you can with the length and width would help.The location of the rudder and skeg will also help. Are there plans to follow or recommendations?
You can go with a straight shaft or a flex shaft.

I know.... you wanted your question answered There are as many ways to make a stuffing tube as there are boats. Let us help find what is best for your application (budget)

You might want to take a look at the MACK water tight stuffing boxes. Never need oiling once installed in the boat. www.mackproductsrc.com

I use axle grease in mine. I only add some once a year.

Buy a 4' length of 3/8" OD brass tubing from McMaster-Carr. The ID is a little less than 5/16". This will make a few stuffing boxes.

Get some Oilite bearings from your local bearing supply store. 5/16" OD x 3/16" ID.

Cut the tube to the desired length and silver-solder a grease tube. You could probably use regular solder but a silver-soldered joint will never break.

With a 5/16" drill, bore each end of the tube about 1/8" deep. This is slightly oversize for the Oilite bearing but gives you a starter hole.

Put the bearing in the tube, hold a block of hardwood over the bearing, and pound the bearing in.

If you forgot the grease tube and have already installed the Oilite bearings, you might see oil oozing from the bearing when silver-soldering. Don't ask how I know.

Robbe Model sport and Graupner both have shafts and tubes already set up with bushings and stainless shafts. The problem I have with 3/16 is there no good scale props for 3/16, but Rivibo, Raboesch, Radstock, and prop shop all make scale props for 4 & 5 mm shafts.
Right now only 2 of my 103 running boats have 3/16. One was built in 1955 the other is a Warehouse hobbies gas boat.

I have propshop scale props on 3/16 shaft . I got them from Harbor models .

Raboesch makes imperial versions of all their props.

I believe that 5mm will thread onto 3/16" or 10-32 thread.

5mm will go on a 10-32 (3/16) thread. 10-32 WILL NOT go on a 5mm.

How do you keep the Octura Bushings in place in the brass stuffing tube (solder)?

Is the Octura bushing flush with the tube or does it stick out a bit?

I've made a stuffing box before using smaller brass tubes as bushing but I'm going to use Stainless steel shafts this time around.

I'm making two stuffing box for the Lindberg Fisherman.
