8' long, 52cc gas VooDoo2 inspired SPAD pattern plane

This isn't F3A legal, so I hope you will forgive me.

I love pattern flying. I also love designing and building amazing planes for dirt cheap. I combined all of those elements into my current favorite plane.
I started with plans for the Voodoo2 from Insight RC.
I then pulled from my years of spad building experience to convert it a light and sturdy large scale plane.

Flying weight ~14 lbs.
52cc TYG-52 Gas engine.
Span = 82 inches
Length = 94 inches

CoolbeaN,
Nice build. What material did You cover the fuselage, wing, stab and fin with? Is it thicker paper or is it depron?
Have You flown it yet?
Do You think the construction will cope with the vibrations from the gas engine (I suppose time will tell)?

It is nice we have "builders" like You still out there, most people just "assemble" ARF's these days.

Just curious - what is SPAD?

/Bo

It is corrugated plastic. 2mm for the wing, fuse, and stabs. 4mm for the control surfaces.
I've had this plane for 4 years and it has flown several times. I just flew it two days ago actually.
SPAD = Simple Plasic Airplane Design.
All total, I think I have around $210 US into this plane.

I got some video. Sorry I'm not the best pilot and I was pretty rusty with this plane.

Hi CoolbeaN,

It flies very slow so plenty of time to think how to fly it, it seems. Almost like F3P style of flying.
Nice flight.
Perhaps the plane seems to be slightly tail heavy in the air? The tail seems to be little low when flying.

It isn't tail heavy as I have to hold a little down elevator when inverted. I think the tail is low in level flight in this video simply because I am flying it so slow. I need to work on co-coordinating my turns better through to keep the nose from sticking up through turns.
