Agreed, there is nothing like being last at the start, and finishing first at the end only because you kept the rubber side down.

Cant count the number of races i have won becuase i calmed down and forgot about pressure to win.

All and all running a reallly clean race, clean passing, and a rewarding end effect.

the best advice i recieved when i started racing dirt bikes came from the professor gary baily ... " race the track and relax be smooth and the speed will be there"

Back in the '80's racing 1/8th on road, my pit man, Laurie, would speak quietly before a big final:
"Smooth is fast, Smooth is fast" and just before the race starts he yells up to me on the drivers stand "Smooth is fast, But Ballistic looks better, so go hard fella". I usually cracked up laughing and fluffed the start. Lucky he was fantastic in the pit, and physically double my size, so no messing with the pit man.

When I met Stubby in Leipzig one of the first things we talked about was the different ways the marshalls put bikes back on the course. I love this phrase, and everytime I see someone doing that I dont get angry I just have to smile envisioning how Stubby showed me what he was talking about..
