Engel Nautilus

After roundabout 4 years building time (and glueing approx. 8000 rivets to the hull) she's done. The Nautilus is the old version of the kit, not the new one with the new teeth. All teeth have been replaced. Prop is a CFK reinforced resin prop.
Four years of challenges, fun and a lot of frustration (has been my first rc model)

Nixblicker,

looks like you did a fantastic job, and don't worry, for some of us, 4 years is quick.

The biggest mistake I did was believing at Gunze metal polish is a great idea.
It looked great in dark iron with the polished and unpolished areas. When it came to sealing this color, I've asked the Gunze dealer and he told me 2k clear lacquer could do the job. I did test pieces with various clear lacquers, enamel, acryl and 2k. 2k looked like it will do the job, so I started on the hull...
2k just takes 30min longer then the others until it ruins the wonderful metal effect

So I ended up with a dark metallic effect, worth $200 which looked like a spray painting as you get it for $10...
The big problem now is, the Gunze color is smoth like butter, the 2k is extremely hard, thus making the hull sensitive like an egg.
So, polish color isn't a good idea for this use.

Engel Nautilus

Nixblicker,

Nice work on the Nautilus. The time you spent on this model was well worth it.

Hi Will,

Not sure if I followed your reference. I just downloaded the original blueprints and tried my best to make new ones as the ones in the kit looked really awkward.

Cheers

Bertram

I provided pics of the original along with Rich for many years, your rakers wouldnt look like this if you used just the "plans". This pic was taken at the pin event after we had restored her... check the rakers
