im new go easy on me. i ordered a DH 9116 heli. from:

i didn't realize it was coming from china. it took about 3.5 weeks and i got it yesterday. the box is all in Chinese and so are the instructions. i found some English instructions online and read up.

i charged the heli like i was suppose to and the red light was on a had a blinking green light. after about a half hour the blinking green light went out. i waited about 2hrs and then unplugged and tried to take it for a flight.

everything synced up and i started to use the throttle the main blades started to spin then they just stopped. i was at full throttle and nothing. i took the heli back to try to regcharge and the same thing happened all over agian.

it's like it's not able to get or hold a charge. is there any advice i can get here? i don't believe i'm doing anything wrong. i have a brand new heli that won't fly. advice please.

If you go to the 9116 thread on this forum and find a post by Stormforce then click on his name you will find a wealth of knowledge about the 9116.

I seem to recall with my DH9104 that "about" turned out to be "exactly" and depending on battery discharge was always some interval of 15 minutes. Haven't used the stock charger in a while.

It seemed as though the charger LED would blink fast (constant current mode), then blink slowly (constant voltage mode), then LED on solid when charge complete.

So, if you always get exactly a half hour charging time, then something is wrong with charger or battery or you aren't pushing the connector in far enough.. The battery likely had some charge in it when you received it and may be why it worked the first time.

The 7.4 volt battery has two cells and one cell could be bad. A digital voltmeter answers many questions.

i looked at stormforce's posts. i don't really see anything pertaining to my situation although he has a lot posted about the 9116.

will the volt meter tell me anything if the battery is dead and won't hold a charge?

A charged battery should read 8.30v to 8.40v.

A voltage of less than 8.00v is a good indication that the battery isn't charged.

A voltage below 6.00v means the battery was over-discharge and likely will not hold a charge.

To be sure, if the battery voltage looks good, it is best to put some load on it and read the voltage under load. Or run it in the helicopter for maybe 10 seconds and then check the battery voltage before the voltage can recover in the following 5 minutes.

is there a good replacement battery and charger that anyone recommend? i do believe one of the 2 is the problem.

Depends on what country you are in. Fastest is local hobby store. Maybe buy a charger for all type batteries.

You really should ask on the DH9116 thread, I don't have a DH9116.

The heli has a low voltage cutout, so if the battery hasn't charged properly, and it isn't fully charged, it will cut out on you.

The best replacement I've found is a 7.4vdc 900mAh 2s Li-Po.

But by the sounds of it, the charger is playing up, so the best thing would be to grab an aftermarket balancer / charger. Any 2s balance / charger will do. Ask your LHS and they should be able to set you up.

now i read on the 9116 thread about page 3 that you switched back to the OEM battery. should i go with the OEM or the one above that you recommend. something to do with the motor getting too hot. i want to order one on ebay so i can try to fly this thing next week. thanks gentlemen.

I still use the 900mAh LiPo, I just break up my flights to shorter durations, plus I have an additional heatsink on the motor which aids cooling. The performance of the 900mAh against the OEM 650mAh is chalk and cheese, thats why I eventually choose to stick with the 900mAh LiPo.

Grab any balancer / charger for a 7.4vdc 2s battery, they monitor the voltage, not the amperage, so it will take as long as it takes to charge it up to 8.4vdc.
