Spread tow cheap...

Hi all,

Maybe interesting to others here on the forum, relatively cheap spread tow available in smaller quantities, looks ok! Noted on Facebook:

https://www.facebook.com/CreativeCompositeTechnologies

30 euro for a square metre for 100 gram/sq. metre

Have some and is fine material!

But I'm not really clear.. looks like 2 purchase options:

- Thinskin = already cured rigid sheet? The skins are fully cured so you only have to apply glue or epoxy resin to adhere them to your wing cores.

- Pre-preg = didn't see much for details regarding resin curing properties or shipping considerations

I guess in either case, the basic spread tow (meaning dry) fabric is not available?
What material did you purchase & what sort of application?

I didn't see any spread tow fabric listed on the site either. But it is described in an Aug. 13 post on FaceBook: "Besides prepreg and parts we now also have Spread Tow fabric on stock, currently we have 100 grams/m2 fabric, price is 30 euro/m2." If that price is accurate I'd definitely buy a few meters. I'm just a novice in the art of composite construction, but that stuff is so damn sexy

I've sent them a message via their website asking about shipping costs to the USA

Hi guys!

maybe I didn't wirte it very clear no; the ThinSKin they sell is a cured sheet material that you use for wingskins; they use it a lot in freeflight models and so on. Can be interesting in very lightweight applications. They sell it uncured in prepreg form, but also cured in sheets that you can bag to foam cores or so.

The spread tow is not listed (yet?) on their website, but they do have it. If you send them a mail they will get back to you with details.

Hello!

I am Kevin from CCT, ptxman asked me to reply here to make matters clear. So here we go:

On our website we indeed only list prepreg materials (both cured and uncured). Besides that we offered via Facebook also ordinary dry spread tow fabric. This material can be bought for 30 euro per square meter. Shipping to the US (up until 25 kg or so) and handling will be 30 euro.

For the moment we only carry 100 gsm fabrics (their are also some small quantities of 120 and 160 gsm left). We will keep you posted when new materials are back in stock.

I guess I am not allowed to post email addresses here. Please follow the link ptxman posted to find our contact form if you are interested. Sending me a PM is also possible of course.

Have a nice day!

Best wishes,
Kevin

Hi Jim,

I took a picture for you, it isn't the best picture and a bit small maybe (done with my mobile...), but gives an idea!

Price is good, relative to other sources. Thinking about getting a few yards, but at my novice level of composite building I'm reluctant to sink $150 USD. Probably more logical for me to stick with cheap glass with some strategically placed kevlar and uni carbon, until I'm more confident.

Looking forward to your hands-on opinion of this Jim

Hey Kevin,

can I ask you about the fibres employed at this? My guess is that the 100 gsm is using a Tenax UTS50. Am I right?

Thanks,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Jep it is the standard Tenax UTS 50 fibre.

Best wishes,
Kevin
