Interface connector for using my JR transmitter with FMS?

Greetings,

I'm a newbie slow-flight flyer (I've got a GWS electric rig I'm trying
to figure out how to fly reliably), and I'd like to bolster my flying
skills by using a PC-based simulator like FMS. Ideally I'd like to
use my actual transmitter (a JR 4-ch; can't remember the actual model
# but it has a buddy attachment). Now I've seen several companies
that offer cables that interface between the transmitters and the PC,
bundled with FMS, for around $50.00 or so, but I think I can get away
with cheaper than that since I've already got FMS downloaded, and all
I need is the cable. But I'm using Windows XP and there's apparantly
some kind of problem there?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have a decent
famliarity with electronics assembly, and could probably build my own
if I had a schematic. Alternatively, I would just buy one outright if
it was priced under, say, $20.00.
I appreciate anyon'e help!

Thanks,

James

P.S. Pray for calm weather this weekend!!

The FlyRC simulator has a wiring diagram that works for FMS as well.
This goes over the parallel port and works on any non Windows-NT based
system (will not work on NT, 2000, or XP).

The FMS home page has a downloadable manual which includes the schematic you
need. It is the one I put together and it worked first time!

Ooops! I'll have a look at the manual then. Sorry to have wasted your
time.

Actually the circuits in the manual won't do you any good if you're
using Win XP. You will need the PIC based circuit which you already
have as it comes with FMS 2.07. Look in FMS/Doc/Interface. To build it
yourself you will need to be able to load a program into a PIC
microcontroller.

If you decide to purchase an interface cable, several vendors are
listed in this post:
