Question

Hobby King shipping with UPS

I ordered some electronics I needed to complete my tricopter from hobby king the other day paying for 3 day delivery. I have been tracking the packge and it was checked into Louisville, KY early today. Now I check it and it is in Anchorage,Alaska. What the heck is up with that?

Anyone out there know why UPS would send it to Alaska when I am in Michigan, a heck of a lot closer to Louisville.

Next it might be in Russia or Australia for all I know....

I can beat that, my last order from HK found its way to Zurich before it turned around and came to Perth. At least yours is wandering around the right continent.

It wasn't HK though because the postal address was correct.

Postal services and airlines seem to have their very own maps don't they?

Took weeks, but someone with basic literacy skills found it in the end and sent it in the right direction. I had actually written it off as a lost cause by the time I received it.

Good luck with your tricopter, it'll be worth the wait.

That is nothing, I ordered something overnighted from Edmond Scientific last Thursday and I still have not gotten it and they are in the same State as I am.

You had LiPo batteries in your order, didn't you.

Hong Kong post will not ship LiPo batteries anymore (don't know about other types of batteries) so if your shipment includes one or more batteries, a Swiss courier takes the packade to Zurich, then gets mailed to its final destination.
My last order took almost a month to arrive (I also had a battery in my order) where in the past I would have had the package in under 2 weeks.

Nope, no Lipo's.... I get them here. state side... All I ordered from HK were the matching motors, esc's props and 4 gyros.

Good news is, I looked this morning and it is out shedualed for delivery.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't worried about it taking so long, I just wondered why it would go to alaska after it was in Kentucky, before coming to Michigan.

I'll let everyone know when I recieve them, but for now, I can say HK's shipping is prompt.

You surmise correctly about the lipos, but my current order has none, nor any other kind of battery, and it too is now over a week in transit and also seems to be in the hands of a Swiss carrier.

The tracking system petered out in Singapore. Who knows where it might be now?

I used to get really good service from Hobby City but nowadays it always seems to be the same story - 1st choice is zero stock, 2nd zero stock, fill the order with 3rd choices and wait a long time.

Maybe I've just been unlucky but after a year of this kind of thing I'm going to try a different Hong Kong store next time and see how that goes.

I have seen UPS do some really stupid shipment at times. I order something from a local vendor that I could have driven to pick up, but the package ended up traveling some 2000 miles to the hub, then routed to me. I don't understand their policies.

You have to look on the bright side, you only paid for three days but you got a week. Good deal.

Here is a good place to post your tri description and results when you get it going or if you need trouble shooting assistance.

Have fun - I'm still waiting.

When so many items are zero stock, practically any.

It was the range that Hobby City carried that made them my favorite store - I could get a lot of stuff there and the service was pretty good. Those days seem to be over so I guess I try elswhere and see.

Has anyone used Himodel? They seem to carry quite a bit of gear.

Further to the above...

While I was waiting for my Hobby City order I placed another with Flying Hobby, also in Hong Kong.

It was a relatively small electronic item, no lipos etc, but fairly high value.
I ordered Mon 12, don't recall what time but I'm pretty sure it was late in the day.

I paid standard airmail only.

Item was posted Tues 13 and I have it in my hand now, Thur 15 3:53pm local time. I would have had it before lunch but I wasn't home.

I'm not sure about the directness of the comparison, but I am left with the feeling that Hobby City really aren't trying too hard any more.

I really don't expect to see that one before next week at the earliest.

Tracking now says it left Zurich on the 12th but it's not logged on the Australian postal system yet.

Now I have my GU 344 and a quad, but no motors

I love that my stuff now goes to Zurich first! If they didn't have exactly what I want I wouldn't order from them now. I used to get stuff from them in about a week (using regular shipping). Now, 3 weeks at the earliest.
