F86 question CP-1700 or CP-2400?

My F-86 needs a new 20 cell battery pack. The plane weighs in at 7 lbs even on a 430 sq inch wing with 20 2000 cells now. Power is a Midi Fan, Ultra 930-6 pulling close to 45 amps.

I am thinking of going to CP-1700 cells to reduce the weight, is it worth it or will I not notice it and I should just go with the CP-2400???

Comments anyone??

I think I may be in the same boat. I took my F-15 out last weekend and the packs or that Aveox spinning thing is about to fail (again). At any rate I think I will go for 2400s. Since I like to taxi, takeoff and taxi back the duration will be a big plus. If it was a bungee bird then the 1700 would be my pick. Just my opinion.

It's a big plane, I would go with the 2400's... You would save about 11 oz, or 10% of your tot weight - not a whole lot.

I heard the CP-2400 have a slightly higher internal resistance than the RC-2400, don't have the Sanyo data in front of me right now...

On my new Midi power F-86 I'm using 16 CP-1700's to start. I'm hoping for a ready to fly weight of 5 3/4 to 6 lb. There is no support wood in it except for the nose gear. I did not cut out the hatch out of the fus. This leave the fuselage not needing alot of internal bulkheads. The motor I'm using is a Hacker B50-18S with a Jeti 70-6-16 ESC.
Should fly in January.

Hi Bob you are running the same power system I am using except for the cells I have scr2400's Zapped and it flys pretty good and my plane weighs around 6.5 lbs this winter I am going to build a new wing to incorporate retracts I have a lot of wing area though 580 Sq Inches what is yours

How does the plane fly at 7 lbs?

When I swapped from 20 2400s to 20 1700s on my lear jet with a weight savings of about 8.5 ozs, there was an enormous difference in performance and ROG distance. With durations of 4 minutes, no more.

But if the plane handles pretty good at 7 Lbs. Why not go for even more performance and put in a Hacker B50 18L and 25 CP 1700s, and keep the same weight. You will probably be glad for the shorter durations, so you have a chance to catch your breath after each adrenaline flight.

at my current skill level slow is good although more power is always good too! but I would have to buy another not cheap motor and controller the Jeti is limited to 16 cells perhaps in the spring I will build another faster style jet the tutor is a draggy design I will build one that can be bungee launched (microfan) the tutor loves the asphalt on takeoff it eats it up pretty good at least 200ft maybe 250
