Cool
Round-A-Bout 3D

Here's one of my famous "Round-A-Bout" 3D planes from the 80's-90's, now as an electric. I used to kit these as nitro version for .40-.52 2 stroke glow with 8oz tank & 10x6-11x7 prop. I went a bit overkill (if that's possible) with the electric version by putting a monster 50-55 580kv outrunner with a 5S 4500mah 30C battery, 150A esc and 14x7E APC. The ESC is still in the mail, but should arrive in a week or so. When it does arrive, i'll film the first few flights to post on YouTube to show how well these fly. They can hover, fly backwards, flat spin, flip in it's own length, roll like a blur, take off and land in your hands, or like a plane on a runway, or grass. They turn on a dime, take major abuse without being busted. Has no stall, flies better as the wind increases, unlike other planes and heli's. Can be flown in as tight as a 6ft circle of space. Makes a great heli trainer.

SPECS:
Channels: 3-4 (Rudder Optional)
Span: 30 in.
Area: 706.5 sq. in.
Weight: 3-5lbs
Power: Electric or Glow
Skill: Intermediate to Expert

Looks a lot like a Nutball with a split elevator to make them in to elevons, I wounder if rounding off the front edge would help with slow flight.

I designed this in early to mid 80's. No, rounding the edges off made them fly worse. Tried many times and all kinds of variances.

You should probably ask to have this moved to the Foamies (kits) forum since you're going to be selling kits.

Good to know, do you think the wing being made out of 1/2" material makes a difference? would 1/4" work if it had reinforcements? I might have to look in to modifying my Nutball.

Good Looking! It must need some speed, it weighs 3-5 pounds on a 30 inch disk!

It flies slow or fast. Has no stall. Can hover perfectly in dead air, or hit 60+mph. I use 3/4in foam. 1in works, but a bit bulky and overkill. I use 3/4in tri stock under the wing joint and 1/64th ply over the top. It's rigid as can be. Don't really need the 1/64th though, unless you plan on putting it through hell. lol

Not yet. Waiting for the ESC in the mail. Should be about a week or so...... I'll film it as soon as it arrives.

Thanks. Once I get it fully dialed in, it'll be extremely aerobatic! That was just the second test flight ever on it. I was being easy on it.
