My "Gere Sport" Pietenpol

Hi all...

Here's my Peitenpol based on Gere Sport design parameters of the Drurine Turbulent a somewhat cartoon scale easy flyer. The Pete & Paul is now part of my stable of Gere Sport Inspired designs Anyhow here is the Pete & Paul not yet painted and awaiting its maiden today if the winds die down.

Enjoy.

Nice Pete, but, that pilot seems to look concerned. Or is that fear in his eyes?

I'm not too sure you should let him maiden it Ralph.

Thats because the motor is miss-firing ..like its running odd cyl. only......

Probably a picture from one of my maiden flights. BTW the maiden was uneventful as expected.

The oversize fin/rudder really add to the cartoon scale look.

Come on give up the secret, how or what have you made the fake engine, spark plugs and radiator out of?

Steve,

depron, 18ga hookup wire, the brass eyelets from servo grommets(spark plugs)

It really makes the airplane.....That big vertical Tail/Rudder has lots of authority and around 7:00pm or later I pylon using 2 adjacent roofs.. Its strange but none of my neighbors come out to their backyard...its golden for me.

Thank-you for the info, now I'm surfing on the laptop (and the secrets out) I can see how the engine is made. I couldn't see the detail when I was using the iPod. Its a great engine made out of scrap and a bit of paint.

Do I see electrical eyelets used on the ends of the wing struts? Just curious because my Mr Mulligan is just waiting for wing struts and I'm chewing over ideas of how to make/attach them.

Have you thought of using your street/flying site to host the minature Reno races or the Wacky races with your cartoon model airforce??

Dear Ralph, I do like your model but as a long time fan and builder of Pietenpol Aircampers would like to point out that the Aircamper and Gere Sport are two very different aircraft.

The Aircamper and Sky Scout were designed by Bernard Pietenpol and both were parasols. The Gere Sport was a biplane designed by George (Bud) Gere. I do agreee that they are/were contempory but just different. Not quite sure how the Druine Turbulent fits into this but all are interesting homebuilts.

Take care and enjoy your flying.

David,

Gere Sport is the handle for Steve from GB and who design the Turbulent. The wing/tail sizes and moments produced a very nice and easy flying model and the oversize vert tail and low AR wing gave it a cartoon look. So my reference to Gere Sport is a person and not an airplane.

The reason I titled it this way was to insure Steve (Gere Sport) got the credit for the basic design parameters) Thanks for your comments to ensure the proper naming since I also am a great fan of the Pietenpol Aircamper.
