White Chief Mining area Oatman, Az.
Out exploring a friends property called White Chief Mine near Oatman, Az. This mine goes straight down 400' with 3 miles of tunnels. Has an old runway and the main pilot that flew people in and out was with the Black Sheep squadron during WW2. Crazy up hill landing and right into the canyons for take offs. Lots of old Indian petroglyphs. High winds kept us from flying most of the time but managed to get the 6061 Hexacopter up for a couple flights.
Enjoy ![]()

Springtime is just around the corner... this thread will pick up again to full swing!
Great vids & pics. :-) Reminds me of days past. My advice... plan your trip. stick to the plan. advise someone separate from your group what you are doing and when you will return. check in with them when you return. It could be important. Old mines are treacherous! |

Here there going mine. Santa Rita Mountains. Thought I would show. Slow fly works great. Here there is lots of old mines, but the land is public use and no one wants a mine. It also awesome place to fly. This is a critical environment issue as the information below the video
* Thanks and thanks. As you wish to say, its not about cutting roads or just something to anything, these mountains are perfect.!!! but the old mines there would be destroyed and land in accessible to public. |

Interesting vid, tank.
I think it clearly shows the value of a stable platform, the need for hi-res, and geologic experience when studying video while searching for mines. Time of day is very important when seeking low wind periods for best flite. Good for AZ that the Santa Rita Mountains hold the potential to provide copper which may be produced for commerce by the local economy. Quite difficult and expensive to cut roads in, like that... there must be substantial deposits! rc |
