Actually I've often thought it would be great to make a boomerang radio controlled although one of the main things I like about them is the simiplicity and lack of batteries, glitches etc.

I think if the transmitter were very small and one-handed it might be worth it.
It would be very difficult to design it so one channel controlled how tight the circle is but I think it would be possible. I know enthusiasts will mock at this and I'd probably not want one but it would be an interesting project if you have an open mind.

it wouldn't be that hard to stick a flybar on top of a frisbee, and use a magnetic heading compass and actuator for 3 channel control - pitch, roll, yaw.
Sticking a motor and blades on, would defeat the purpose of the frisbee!

I think an electric FF frisbee would be AWESOME! Just plop a motor on one side, throw the battery on the other, and LET ER RIP!

do you mean with the frisbee flying forward, or rotating?

a golf disc with a gyro for control would be sweet, it would have to be spinning,, or it would be unstable

Way cool

I gotta have one just one thing, how can you fly something you can't see? Some Led's on the end and night flights would be spectacular.

Here's an article from FlyRC: http://www.flyrc.com/articles/veratech.shtml

I was wondering how they steer it or know which way is forward, then I saw this line - "VeraTech Aero is seeking technology partners to further develop the aircraft’s maneuverability and flight performance." Sounds like they're wondering the same thing!

Very cool though!

My guess is that they'd ..
a) use magnetic readings and command the craft to fly a compass heading or
b) use GPS. Given they're seeking military $$s I'm guessing this is more likely.
c) use of blinking LEDs ala X-UFO probably not considered given the whole stealth nature they're trying to achieve.

Some other threads (see other links in this one) in the UAV forum discussed how they cyclically vary the motor RPMs to do steering and the on-board camera concept. One interesting spinning wing concept I saw mentioned here on RCGroups was the Electric Maple Seed. Closest thing I've seen to an electric Frisbee was done by JoseJ here. I'm musing over whether a 3 bladed "boomerang" with a pager motor located in each "wing" would make a useable flyer, if even just for giggles.

If you got your hands on one, you hack in your own fun things like LEDs. I'm all for SEEing cool flying gizmos, ( flying blind is not my idea of fun ) but I get the whole stealth thing. Nearly invisible flyer...things that make you go hmmm.

Looks pretty hard to control. Maybe finicky. But a GREAT IDEA, looks v

Makes you wonder what else is out there...

Tip: Check out the cool hovering RCs at www.rctoys.com Zenon Dragan of DraganFly Innovations Inc. has invented many RC models. My favorite is his 'DraganFlyer'. Four props, one at each end of a slim cross. Flies extremely well.

When they've got it sorted, how about four in the air at once, for a spot of Combat flying?
