Oberadapter F3B turnaround upgrade kit

Over the past few years, I've been making some turnaround pulleys that seem to work really well.
After a trip to the GATOR WEST F3B contest, I got to see how the pulley are used, and get some good feedback from current F3Ber's about what they would like to see in turnarounds.
One thing I noticed is the "this end up" arrows on almost everyone's pulleys.
Other folks were asking for a 'chute stop built into the pulley.

Consensus is that the WinchDoc pulley does little or no damage to the line, and the line never slides on the pulley surface. It is snag-free and smooth running.

Folks were looking for a solution to mounting the WinchDoc pulley onto an Ober stake assembly.

Here is what I came up with. I only made a few for evaluation, but considering how I've been playing with it all evening, I think it will be a hit.

I only made a half dozen or so just to get them out there.

I can bring some to Cal Valley...

Looks great Doug.

Just one observation on the chute stop. If you look at the first two pictures you just posted, our own made stops are closer to the pulley and also closer to the center.

When we use thin line like 1.02 with a 2 mm sleeve on the chute, if the stop isn't a couple of millimeters from the edges of the pulley, the chute will go through.

Also, if the stop isn't in the center, the line can rub on it if for example you are on a downwind launch going past the turnaround.

I agree with Glauco - the stop needs to be closer to the pulley to guarantee it will stop the chute. It also should be biased to the bottom side of the pulley - actually below center.

The reason I know, is my first pulley has the stop about where Doug has this one and the chute can and does pull through sometimes. The line also can rub on it it. On my second pulley, I have the stop on the center, very close to the pulley. The chute can never pull through this one, but the line can rub on it during a downwind launch. Putting it 10 degrees down from horizontal is probably all it needs to keep the line from rubbing in just about all cases.

One of these days I'll get around to putting the stop in the right place. . .

Chute stops

Well good news/bad news-
Good news is that the modified pulley plates are done;
Bad news is the modified pulley plates are done... with the 'chute stop
where it is shown.

Next batch I run will have the 'chute stop in a better location.

Meanwhile, I have finished all the Oberadapters, they are really slick and rotate freely with the thrust bearing inside the block. I made these from some nice 2024 aluminum alloy- nicer material than good ol' 6061.. (but more expensive)
If you want just the Oberadapter, it's $95 shipped in CONUS
Adapter/pulley combo is $185.

If you mount the pulley upside down, that will solve the rubbing problem.
A larger diameter spacer will put the stop closer to the pulley. Those two things should address the concerns mentioned above without having to put the hole in a different place.

REWORK 'chute stop & bonus

OK,
I think I understand where we want the 'chute stop.
Here is a shot of where I plan to put it.
I'll set up this operation again and re- drill & tap the stop in the new location.
Plus, in the limited time I have these on the machine, I will be able to offer free custom text
on your pulley IF YOU LET ME KNOW RIGHT AWAY, I'll put your name on it.
(talkin' to YOU, Michael & Kyle)

Funny the AMA folks still insist on being able to pull the entire 'chute, and other hardware thru the turnaround.

GREAT work Doug! Good job understanding our requirements and making mods to your pulley! If I had the cash I would be in for some parts too. Hopefully you will get enough interest to do another run at a later time

Perhaps we should talk offline about figuring out an adapter for the Swede-pulley too. I really love your large diameter/low friction wheel. MUCH nicer on the line.

With just one more part for a linear bearing plus a stake, there would be enough for a stand alone turn around. I really like the linear bearing in my turnaround. It never gets stuck in the up position like I see happen with turnarounds that use a bushing. . .

Doug, for F3B the chute stop is part of the rules, not a personal requirement.

The intent is to avoid the line to come through the turnaround and lay over other team lines impeding launches and so delaying the contest.

Just a note that the only Super Chutes that I have got back is where some one has pulled it thought the turn around ..Chutes are not meant for that ...Love your turn around pulley's...Keep Up the good work ...
