Question
Need an F3B winch

Hey guys,
We have more pilots flying the Gator and we need another winch or two.
can anybody help with a loaner or renter?
We have a Florida Pilot who may buy one also if the price is good.
Thanks
Gordon

I have one that I bought from David Klein a couple years or more ago. I don't know if you are checking the winches for compliance or not, but this one would need to have some sort of resistance added since it doesn't have anything now and it did not pass the check at the F3J team select contest in Florida.

Perhaps someone from my area (Reto maybe?) is driving down for the contest and could bring it. It does have a nice carry case, so I could ship it down if need be. I do owe you a favor, after all.

That would be awesome thanks Phil.
Reto is coming. Can I ask him to pick it up from you?

Oh silly me! I just checked the registration list. I'm pretty sure that Daryl would bring the winch down for me/you. I'd guess he's driving down, maybe with Reto.

OK. It's a done deal. I just read the next post after the registration list on the Gator F3B thread and Daryl is driving down, and I happen to know he drives a pickup truck that should have plenty of room for an extra winch.

No Daryl is not coming and I will fly down to Orlando.

Shipping the winch in a FatMax box or similar will be in the order of 50$. Maybe I can take it on the plane.

Or you could bring the winch to the San Felasco competition and an Orlando DLGer could take it home?

I have a winch equipped with the favored Lucas motor that I might want to sell. It needs some maintenance on the break.

Hey Phil,
That would work.
Can you bring it to San Felasco and give it to Jeff Duval. He is a local Gainesville pilot and will see you at the event? jeff@jeffduval.net
And Reto Jeff may buy your Lucas winch as well if you communicate with him. Do you know what parts it needs?

I am flying down to San Felasco. Someone who is driving down is doing me a big favor by taking my model box. I doubt that there is enough room for the winch as well. I could ask though.

I packed my model box for the San Felasco F3K contest. I also packed up the F3B winch in its travel case. The experience reminded me of one big reason why I like F3K so much more than those big models. The travel case is really big and heavy. It is almost certain that I will be dropping the winch off at Fedex on Monday or Tuesday to ship it to Florida. The extra drums for the winch don't fit in the travel case so I'll give those to the fine souls who are driving down to San Felasco with my model box.

Hey Phil,
Thanks so much for your help mate. I am overwhelmed at the amazing response we have to this years Gator. Lots of pilots, lots of helpers and guys like you and Jeff Carr who really help out too when we're stuck. Jeff called me this morning and offered another winch too so we should nearly have enough.
You're right about the stuff being heavy mate. My address for Fedex would be:
169 Steeplechase Circle
Sanford, FL 32771
Ph: 4076878426

Have a great F3K contest mate.

Thanks guys so much. I have located several winches on the west coast, but shipping costs are higher. The more we can fill closer to Florida the better. I am always so proud and amazed at the generosity of the soaring community.
