What's a good beginner pylon type plane?

Hi, I did a quick search and looked a few pages in, didn't find what I was looking for... sorry if I missed it.

I don't want to compete, just want one for fun. What would be a good, sub $200 fast pylon racer type airframe that's not too small (~30"ish wingspan?).

When I say beginner, I just want something that has more forgiving flight characteristics, even if that means sacrificing speed. What I mean by forgiving is lower stall speed/not too crazy bad stalls, easy(er) launch, easy(er) landing. I put everything in relative terms because I realize these are by no means "beginner" aircraft. Thanks!

Hi, for start, dont go with 30" wingspan, its the most difficult ones in everything.
Go for at least 40", even better 50".

HK Reverb is a good start.

I hear ya! I saw the 850mm/sub 30" ones as well and they just look like a lot of work to fly. Thanks for the response!

I know it's tame by comparison, but I JUST built and flew a NitroPlanes Swift, on 3S with a 2200kv 2826 and 6x4, it flies beautifully and decently fast, but not very fast. I'm worried about the wing with no carbon spar in it.

Thanks for the suggestion, I saw the reverb before and looking again it looks perfect! I originally looked past it because it didn't have a rudder, but after doing a lot more looking around I realize none of these hot planes have rudders.

I would recommend the Hobbyking EFX Racer. 100 Mph (not fast), easy assembly, no bad habits. You can run it on three cell (stock) and move to four cell.

Thanks Randy, I should have mentioned I have an EFX, I just want something with composite construction. 100-120 range will always be fast enough as far as I'm concerned.

They have been a little hard to come by lately, but the Rifle 1M might be just what you are looking for. Stock airframe setup is 100ish on a 2-cell and 130ish on a 3-cell. 1 meter wingspan is nice sized and much easier to see and fly than the 24-30" racers.

Here's the RCGroups Review:

Tower is showing them out of stock till late June.

Might be worth the wait though.

Nice! I was definitely looking at the rifle. I found Amazon has just one available for $160 plus shipping, been just kinda looking at it deciding whether to buy or not

These two are pretty cool and price seems great: http://www.espritmodel.com/projectil...whiteblue.aspx

Saw this in the classifieds if it interests you. Comes with servos and Mega motor.

Good luck.

The Amazon one is the original 31" not the 1meter one.

Thanks for the info... I didn't see any mention of wingspan on the ad and I didn't realize there was a new version.. just saw it wasn't available anywhere.

Last 2 Reverbs I ordered I had to reject because the box had obviously been folded. Didn't want a broken wing from the outset. Very, very frustrating.
