Open TX Companion Mac

Started this thread for those of us crazy enough to attempt to get the Mac version of the latest OpenTX Companion working again.

I noticed that the qt4-mac make suggests phonon be installed separately. I'm trying sudo port install phonon in my setup. So far I'm only up to the Python bindings as far as the prerequisites.

I have compiled 2.0.12 and it appears to be working OK, although I have not had time to test extensively or to make a package with all the dependencies included.

Once you get your support files installed, if you would like to check it out let me know.

In the meantime I will try and find time to make a stand alone package.

Sounds good. I'm on track to finish installing all the pre-requisites tonight. My plan was to pull source tomorrow.

I used a Windows laptop to put 2.0.12 on my radio so I already have the firmware to test with. All of muy development has been non-Mac so this is jumping into the deep end for me. Tons of Windows and OS/2 and a decent amount of Unix so I'm not totally worthless

As the OpenTX Companion GitHub page hasn't had a Mac build since 2.0.8, myself and others are attempting to build the current release (2.0.12 as of now) on the Mac. This thread can be used for our working notes as we try to get this to build.

I've downloaded and installed all the prerequisites as per the GitHub Wiki, but the actual build is failing for me. It might be as simple as a missing file, but this is the first time I've pulled files from GitHub, and I'm not sure where to go look to see if I'm missing something.

Try this link, I think you should have access to a zip file containing the app.

Thats exactly my intention. Perhaps we can collaboratively sort out the issues and find a solution for building a proper bundle for installation that can work for future versions.

We should probably try building 2.0.8 first, since we know it worked on that release, then try to narrow down when it broke.

Good point but it looks like CAE may have already sorted out the compilation issues. He was able to build the app but has not bundled the libraries required. If his works it may just be a matter of folding his fix into the stream and sorting out the library issues. He posted a Dropbox link for those brave enough to try it after installing the tools.

Your system can't find file named "inttypes.h". This file is a part of GCC compiler distribution and should be in a directory with a bunch of other .h files. I don't know a lot about MAC, but on linux (osx seems similar) such files are in /usr/include directory.

What happens if your run this command in terminal?
Code:
find /usr/ -name "inttypes.h"
On my system (linux) I get:
Code:
$ find /usr/ -name "inttypes.h"
/usr/lib/avr/include/inttypes.h
/usr/lib/syslinux/com32/include/inttypes.h
/usr/include/inttypes.h
/usr/include/c++/4.6/tr1/inttypes.h

Compilation Error

I was able to get all of the prerequisites installed and have attempted to compile Companion 2.0.12.

This is the error I received:

Scanning dependencies of target simulation
...
/Library/Frameworks/SDL2.framework/Headers/SDL_platform.h:83:3: error: SDL for
Mac OS X only supports deploying on 10.5 and above.
# error SDL for Mac OS X only supports deploying on 10.5 and above.
^
1 error generated.

make[2]: *** [simulation/CMakeFiles/simulation.dir/simulatordialog.cpp.o] Error 1
make[1]: *** [simulation/CMakeFiles/simulation.dir/all] Error 2
make: *** [all] Error 2

I checked my SDL and it says I have 10.5 installed. Perhaps the source code is pointing to 10.4 in some module but I don't know where to start looking.

Oddly enough, when the compile failed on OS X (Mavericks) I decided to try compiling Companion 2.0.12 on Linux and it did so with no errors.

I think I will attempt to compile 2.0.8 when I have time as ttabbal has suggested.

Here is my results from find for inittypes.h

Rods-Mac-Pro:src rod$ find /usr/ -name "inttypes.h"
/usr//include/c++/4.2.1/tr1/inttypes.h
/usr//include/inttypes.h
/usr//local/avr/include/inttypes.h
/usr//local/CrossPack-AVR-20131216/avr/include/inttypes.h

Excellent start. Thanks for the pointer.

I broadened the search and found the files in the various Xcode App bundles. Now to determine which is the correct/reliable/future proof way to select the correct path to include. I assume the best selection is to include the most recent Mac OS version, but I'm not sure what is considered the correct way.

Thanks again for the pointer!

I'm wondering where the OSX version number is coming from, it looks to me as though that check is in error.

I'll try giving 2.0.8 a whirl tonight just to see if I have everything setup correctly before diving into 2.0.12, I did a lot of installs last night and who knows if I got them all 100% especially since I did phonon separate as the make file said to do as opposed to what the wiki said.

I installed a fresh Yosemite and managed to get all the prerequisites working.

My compile error is the same as noted above and dynamich tips about the inttypes.h gets me this result

I've read of many software version checks failing with Mac OS X 10.10, Yosemite, because they didn't check enough significant digits. For example, while 10.1 < 10.2, 10.10 should not be less than 10.9, but if they drop the trailing zero, it fails.
