Should I get a DJI Phantom 2 for first quad?

Hello. Im planning to purchase my first quad and looking at getting the DJI Phantom 2 Vision. I am the "get the best at the best price" kind of guy, so i will be looking for the lowest price on the Phantom. Im just not sure if this is the quad for me. I like the acrobatic properties of some of the DYI quads i have seen. From what i have seen the Phantom does not have these acrobatic abilities. Correct? I would like a quad that has both acrobatic properties and the amazing FPV controllability as the Phantom 2 Vision.

What do you guys suggest? Should i be looking at a quad that does both? Or should i get 2 different quads. One cheaper quad for acrobatic stunts, and another for FPV?

Thanks.

You can get pretty crazy with a Phantom 2 when you switch it into Manual mode. I personally don't care for the Vision but the Vision+ is really nice.

No. You should not. You should get a micro quad and learn to fly it first, otherwise you crash your phantom within seconds, spend a few hundred repairing it. Crash it in a minute, spend a few hundred repairing. Crash it in a few minutes and then give up.

Learn to fly quads using something cheap and tough, not expensive and fragile.

That was my fear. Which micro do you guys suggest that is tough and fast? I was looking at a Armattan CF 258 in the classifieds for an acrobatic quad.

The question is "do you know how to fly a multicopter already?" If the answer is no, then you do not want an acrobatic as your first quad unless you just enjoy buying parts and fixing things. If you have no flight experience, then get a Hubsan X4 H107L and learn how to fly it well, then move up.

I have never flown one before. This will be my first. I looked at many reviews for the Phantom 2 and they stated it was good for beginners. But i guess that is automatic/easy mode that does almost everything for you. That wouldnt be too much fun. I think i will start with a cheap one like you suggest to gain some skill first. Are the Husban controls similar to the high-end models?

How do you guys like the Husban vs the Blade 180 QX for a learning quad?

$49 vs $149, if you can fly the Husban, you can fly something bigger.

Husban it is!! Thanks bud. Amazon has it for $34.

Will a DX7 or DX8 sync to it without any complications? Thinking of investing in a good transmitter now for later quads.

Or do you guys suggest I just go with the cheap stock transmitter from Husban?

You wont be able to replace the transmitter on it. Just learn to fly it as is.

Got it. It gets here tomorrow. I'm super pumped!!! Thanks for the tips Garrison.

Already looking for my next more complex quad build though.

Btw does the Husban have enough power to do flips or rolls?

It can do flips once you take it out of easy mode, I watched someone do it today or I wouldn't have been able to answer that.
