shipping masts

Was just wondering if they would.Dick
Dick,
I went to the manufacturer today. Good news? the answer is "Yes".
Yes, we don't have to order 10. Yes, we can ship one (or any number big or small) to you.

The manufacturer and I will followup Monday to workout more details&costs.
We'll probably use paypal and it looks like the price will include shipping & handling to your address.

The good news is that if 5 people want masts-great, or 10, it doesn't matter. And, we think we have the shipping logistics worked out with UPS.

More good news, the production mandril is 90" for the Wheelers (largest of the AMYA fleet). But, the manufacture can cut the mast to fit your Santa Barbara, EC12, etc.

Time for our technical guys here on line to get in this discussion re mast flex specifications. Note: The max length is 90". Orders can be cut down from 90" to fit your rig. The inside diameter is .500" The outside diameter can vary to be more or less flexible. On that note, we have 5 Wheeler masts now in our position for a baseline.

So, anyone interested in a single piece, tapered CF mast for a Wheeler, Santa Barbara, etc, raise your hand.

11 Wheeler are here!

Guys,
TODAY'S CF MAST UPDATE, 7/14/14: Picked up masts before noon from ACP today.
It looks as though most Wheeler people don't follow this posting. Not sure how to communicate. Next best bet, mental telepathy (or smoke signals). More to follow.

Next challenge...distributing masts.

Of the 11 masts constructed, 11 are spoken for.
(90" tapered CF masts which will sell for $130 plus shipping.) ACP price ($130) is higher than originally ($115) planned.

e-mail me here re you shipping needs. I'll take the mast to UPS and get the shipping cost for you.

LPU will be organized for Sacto & the SF Bay Area.
Shipping cross country will be UPS and cost about $30[SIZE="2"] (you pay whatever the actual cost of shipping is. Cross country multi mast order shipments can be packaged to a single address to reduce per mast shipping costs.

Paypal is preferred.
For paypal, add 3.5% (+$4) if you check "goods". There is no fee if you check “family.” You’re choice.

Jeff Depew reports we have 8 Wheelers racing Saturday. There will be three SFMYC Wheelers participating which is a first.

Looking forward to 2015 already when having 5 SFMYC Wheelers participate.

The regatta will be officiated by the Wheeler group with Nancy and I keeping score. Good luck to all!

SFMYC Wheeler Regatta, 2014

If big is beautiful, Saturday’s Wheeler Regatta was grandiose. Eight of the largest RC sailboats put on a public display of model boat racing. That was trumped for some perhaps by a charming 10 yr old sailing his Vela sailboat in-n-out of the Wheeler fleet (without incident) under the close supervision of his busy (multi-tasking) racing father. Jonah is tomorrow’s racer, without doubt.

If race#1 was any indication, we were in for an unusual day. Dave Misunus #6 held the rail down crossing first but close on his heels was Sam Weeks #17 with Ryan Schofield #16 trying to overtake Sam. Then we had #2 Wheeler, George Riberio’s (of GRProductions) boat. But, George wasn't at the controls. #2 was in the hands of a new comer to Wheelers.

Nancy Barbata (Star class skipper) was at the helm. Nancy is a skilled skipper who took to challenging the best when she placed 4th in race#1 but moved smartly up the fleet in the races that followed.

George Riberio was at the helm of #2 winning a 1st in race#5 before handing the controls back to Nancy.

Ron Saxon #48 adjusted his Wheeler to the light winds early in the Regatta and took 1st place in race 6 following with a 2nd & 3rd moving him up the leaderboard.. And, Rich Ludt #5 moved from 7th in race#1 to 1st place in race #4 (before a failed servo knocked him out of contention).

While our race day began with light and variable 6 mph winds, it did picked up blowing 16 mph with occasional gusts to18. Cat’s paws swirled over the lake catching a few skippers by surprise. These “surprises” have a name around SFMYC-being “Spreckeled”.

Wheeler Secretary, Jeff Depew #88 was Spreckeled early in the race coming in 8th for race#1. Hold on! Adjusting quickly, Jeff took 1st’s in races 3 & 7 with all others being 2nd except one 4th in race 4. Excellent helmsmanship and adaptability gave Jeff the lowest score-1st place- winning this year’s SFMYC Regatta.

2nd place went to Dave Misunas with boat #6 who was the serious challenger for 1st place all day.

3rd place went to Ron Saxon’s boat #48 who came from behind midway in the regatta, finishing strong.

Congratulations to one and all for a great day of racing all done in good spirits with large amounts of cooperation from one-n-all.

Well #38 is coming alive bit by bit. The keel is now refit to the boat with a centering pin and is straight. On to the chain plates and interior. Fixed the deck that was caving in by the main hatch. Ryan

10 of 11 masts sold.
Contact me here if you want a 90" tapered CF mast

Masts were made by ACP Composite for Wheelers. The 90" mast can be cut down for SBs.
The one remaining mast sells for $130 plus shipping. Shipping is by USPS. Local pick up is an option for a Bay Area and Sacto buyer.

Paypal preferred. PM here for details.

Couple of things, first I hear Jeff Depew is changing the date for Nationals to October 11-.12.
Next Jerry has masts for anyone who has not picked theirs up yet. Also here is a cool picture of my boat with the new Vector Sails Main. Ryan

power-vang modification prototype

Adrian Olsen created a power-vang for Wheelers. Here is my work replicating and modifying Olsen's design.

Pic#1 below shows the power-vang on George Reberio's (GRP) Wheeler-Raptor. In this case, two aluminum tubes are fitted with a compression spring. Each end of the power-vang is attach to the mast&boom using DuBro RC giant scale AC clevises. (One setup uses 2x triple blocks. Another uses a double block & a triple block.) The sheet from the block passes through a deck fairlead under the pivot point of the vang passing to a HS 7950TH servo for control.

This prototype uses SS tube in place of the aluminum tubes. (A report says the aluminum tube can't handle the forces that develop with a 2,000 sq in rig when in strong wind).

Pic#2 Here are two SS tubes (ACE Hardware)-⅜" & 5/16"

Pic#3 Fittings are turned for the ends of the SS tubes. The fittings attach the (DuBro) clevises so the SS power-vang can be attached to the mast and boom.

Pic#4 The aluminum fitting is chucked in the mill to be drilled&tapped so the clevis can be fixed to the vang ends. Treading the fitting allows for micro-adjustments when installing the vang to the mast and boom.

Any conversation about this prototype power-vang is appreciated.
Cheers.
