Long Term Review of AirTime RC products Landing gear
I would like to share my long term use review of the AirTime RC Products landing skids.
I got into RC stuff many years ago with Trucks, Buggies, Street cars. But only within the last 10 years have I gotten into planks and helicopters.
During this time I have seen many advancements and exciting innovations in the industry but a couple things have remained constant, This hobby isn't cheap, and things tend to break. We usually tend to buy multiple of the same spare part and stock up on things we know have a high failure rate. Some of these parts are cheap in price or cheaply made and some are a combination of both and when we have to replace them so often the cost adds up very quickly. On top of that rarely do we encounter a company on our RC journey that truly embraces customer service and strives to offer the best made highest quality product at a price that's reasonable and affordable to the average hobbyist.
Enter AirTime RC Products. The company behind a line of landing skids that are virtually indestructible. Rich the owner and sole proprietor of AirTime RC produces a line of landing skids meant to stand up to the use and serious abuse that some of us pilots tend to throw our birds way.
I first learned about AirTime RC a couple years ago when I got my first mCPX micro CP helicopter. At the time I noticed that the stock landing skids had an extremely high failure rate I was looking for something a bit more durable that could stand up to slightly less than perfect landings. I first tried the KBDD extreme landing skids and although being slightly stronger than stock they were also a bit more brittle resulting in sheared mounting pins on anything less than a stellar landing. Next I went with Microheli carbon fiber landing skids. Although these looked great sitting on the bench, that's really the best I can say for them. After knocking my bird off the bench with these skids equipped, they were reduced to a pile of tangle carbon fibers, plastic battery mount, and screws. (I admit my work bench Is probably a bit taller than most to accommodate my height and fact that I tend to do most of my tinkering while standing)
That's when I heard about this new revolutionary product known as AirTime RC. At first I saw some videos and heard some talk about a new skid for the mCPX that would save my wallet the bi weekly outpouring on buying multiple sets of skids and I was a bit skeptical. Then one day it happened. I was fresh out of spare skids and to my horror my local hobby store was as well. So I broke down and decided I might as well give these new skids a try.
I shot an email off to and asked him for a set of his New Low Profile landing skids, how much they were and where to send the money. Within an hour I had the response, and immediately got the money out to him. Yes these skids are a bit more expensive than stock skids but you will soon find out that the higher initial cost will save you butt loads of money down the line and with in the first 3 to 4 hard landings will have payed for themselves.
I got the new skids about a week later and started to beat and abuse them trying to prove that these were not as claimed "Virtually Indestructible" Well fast forward almost 2 years that I have had these skids now and out of the numerous parts that have been swapped, replaced, upgraded, and modified. These are the only part left on the bird that hasn't needed to be changed or replaced.
The bird these skids are on has taken on many forms in the last two years and at least twice as many crashes. Some of those crashes have been minor, some very major require nearly every part of the helicopter to be replaced or repaired. I only say "Nearly" as these landing skids are the only part that since purchasing have not had to be replaced or repaired.
Rich takes pride in his work, He constantly strives to provide a product that is far superior to anything offered by the OEM. His customer service is unmatched. You can tell from the first moment you speak with him that this is not about turning a profit for him but instead about a nearly dead quality known as "Pride In Ones Work" and that shows in his line of products.
If your in the market for some new or spare landing skids for several models of helicopter, I highly suggest you get in touch with AirTime RC products. They will save your wallet and sanity.(because you will have more cash to give to your wife to placate her)
