Give me a couple of days to find or take pictures of my adjustment to the shroud attachment problem. Relatively easy fix.

My solution to patched mid mast fitting. This uses the fitting as a routing guide with the pressure being transferred to the to p of the mast. A few split rings and some braided line is all that is needed. If the fitting is missing, lash a split ring to the mast in the same position to serve as a guide. Hope this helps; it can be easily undone if it doesn't work for you. I hve used it for about three years without a problem.

Chuckle for today

The Psychiatrist and the Proctologist

Best friends graduated from medical school at the same time and decided that, despite two different specialties, they would open a practice together to share office space and personnel.

Dr. Smith was the psychiatrist and Dr. Jones was the proctologist. They put up a sign reading:
"Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones: Hysterias and Posteriors."
The town council was livid and insisted they change it.

So, the docs changed it to read: "Schizoids and Hemorrhoids."
This was also not acceptable.

So they again changed the sign: "Catatonics and High Colonics"...... No go.

Next, they tried: "Manic Depressives and Anal Retentives".... thumbs down again.

Then came: "Minds and Behinds".... still no good.

Next attempt resulted in: "Lost Souls and Butt Holes" .......unacceptable again!

So they tried: "Analysis and Anal Cysts"..... not a chance.

"Nuts and Butts"..... no way.

"Freaks and Cheeks"..... still no good.

"Loons and Moons"..... forget it.

Almost at their wit's end, the docs finally came up with:

"Dr. Smith and Dr. Jones--Odds and Ends"

Perfect.

In Montgomery's hot July, only a Vela and a Nirvana braved the heat index to sail for a few hours last Saturday. Good thing George remembered his big umbrella or it would have been super crispy. Winds were generally light, so I put the larger head sail on the Nirvana.
(Seebee, that is what the extra ring is for at top of my mast.)
Under those conditions, it stayed with or sailed past the Vela on most points.

Nice video Bill! Maybe the standard sails are really B sails and your masthead configuration is therefore the A rig! Then the reduced rig that we sail over here at the coast would be called a C rig...
The smaller sails, cut by Garrett, are around 80% of the standard sail area, and are single panel. What increase would you estimate your three panel drifter to add?

Nice video. Looked like the Nirvana was doing a good job in the light winds. That white boat is a Vela? Hard to tell with out all the factory decals and colorful sails.
I had a Vela (returned it due to factory defects) and have a good buddy that has one. I found sailing it a challenge at times.
My friends boat doesn't accelerate as well as my Yamaha, Seawind or my Nirvana. This could just be my friends boat -- not sure.
You guys sure have a nice place to sail!

Yes, it 's a Vela, modified with a wider fin to reduce perceived side slip and maybe a larger rudder. It also has a little trouble getting started, but then sails better in more wind than it used to do.

Peter, I made my mast mods out of necessity on used boats and added a ring to the top to attach the larger head sail. It is a fun sail, not a serious one, unless Garrett wants to take up sewing in his spare time. Have you joined your two fleets yet, and how is that going?

Bill, I think a single panel masthead rig would work, although taping panels works well. Sewing is hard work!
The 'Midshipmen' have been with the 'Admirals' since January 1st and we are currently in the Summer series with ex 'Middies' first and third! We usually have to use odd/even races in Tuesdays (we go to odd/even with more than 11 boats), although Thursdays are not as popular yet.
We are currently getting our usual summer winds (frequent gusts >15 mph) and B sails are a frequent choice.

A little humor for today:

I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people. I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem work itself out.

Gone are the days when girls cooked like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers.

You know that tingly little feeling you get when you really like someone you've just met? That's common sense leaving your body.

I don't like making plans for the day. Because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around in the courtroom.

I didn't make it to the gym today. ...That makes 1,500 days in a row.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Dear paranoid people who check behind shower curtains for murderers. If you find one, what's your plan?

Everyone has a right to be stupid. Politicians just abuse the privilege.
