Floats forGreatplanes 1/4 patty wagstaff vtwin

Hi , i gonna build some floats for my Patty wagstaff Extra 300s i need your guys advises. I want to have them very light and aerodynamic with smallest amount of drag. Do someone have a cad file with drawing of some smart construction?
I was thinking of building with balsa and reinforce with carbon.

Well, light and aerodynamic would be the holy grails of float design, but run smack into the physics of flotation and water handling. The design axiom of float length = 75-80% of fuse length is the starting point, with step aft of the aircraft CG, and noses protruding past the propeller. Suddenly you have long floats, and float widths/heights determined by flotation weight to be supported.

Quickly, "aerodynamic" is replaced by "hydrodynamic", both the curse and delight of floats.

As floats get larger they also get heavier. Many have gone to foam-core as light alternatives to balsa, but the term "aerodynamic" is a rare one associated with floats.

Just as with full-scale, great performance sacrifices are made with the addition of floats, in exchange for the on-water utility.

Yep, I just ordered a set from seaplane supply myself to replace some heavier balsa ones currently on a Beaver. They haven't arrived yet, but am anxious to see how they do.
