HK Poseidon 650

Has somebody tried the hk poseidon yet? I'm having ideas about getting one to tinker With, maybe try and set it up with a proper rg65/df65 rig and sail it against the local df65's.

...and most definetely get rid of the scale stuff on the deck

The weight shouldnt be too bad, some german page said it is 1280g ready To sail.

I like the shape of the hull since it doesnt look like a banana like some rc race boats do

Not much out there on this HK offering - found one youtube shows it sails OK - the boat is so far away at 25.5" long you ca't tell much about it's sailing characteristics. The one comment I found on the KH site was the line they use for the sheets will break - and needs to be replaced. That is pretty standard with HK boats.

The yacht is a Beili brand and is sold by HK in a ARTR kit. It does not include a radio system.

There was no soft nose in my kit and no mention of it being supplied in the parts list. The manual says that the yacht is RG65 compliant with modification. I assume this to mean that the addition of a 5 +/- 1mm soft bow piece will keep the overall length under the max of 656mm and the soft bow meet the rules requirement.

I have not checked any of the yachts dimensions but assume it meets the other RG65 rules.

Ok, i see the resemblence with phoenix 870.

Tugboat, have you weighed your boat?

On the german forum it was mentioned that the keel is ~600g and bare hull ~500g and sailing weight of about 1280g

Sorry, no I have not weighed it as still in box but I doubt the figure of 1280gm sailing weight. That is where the Dragon Force is. I would tend to believe the post that says it is around 1460gm.

Until I build mine I don't know for sure.

Just picked up one of these RTR for the wife, perfect to get her started for a beginner. I'm an old sailor, mostly my vintage all wood ex-Flying Junior (sail US 491) and Nacra 5.2s, Hobie Cats. This Poseiden 650 just looked too fun to pass up.

I'll report in with all specs, weight and dimensions, currently enroute. Hopefully will also provide a proper video too with varying wind conditions.
Cheers, Thompson

This is my first RC sailboat, but very experienced with RC boating since mid 70s.

To give the wife a hassle free experience (she's not going to be racing), I'd imagine upgrading lines, some rigging and fittings might be in order. What should I pay attention to? NVM, found it—"replace lines for sheets" — thanks @Boomer1

Will other DF sails work listed on http://www.rg65usa.org/dragon-force-sail-makers.html ?
Cheers, Thompson

Nahh, they are smaller than a df suit. I made a "A" set, patterned +/- on Mr. Russell ' s goth sail design

HK Poseiden arrived. This little RG65 hull looks really nice for a first time introduction to RC sailboats. I'll post more photos as I get it together, here are some measurements for now.

Nice looking boat! Could you please measure this?
  • Total weight/displacement ready to sail (incl. batteries and everything)
  • Total sail area (in metric please!) to compare with 1250 cm2 class maximum
  • height of mast from deck to top (class defines max 1100mm)
Thank you!!
