My father used to tell me, "Wish in one hand and spit in the other, see which one fills up first". Not sure how's that relevant, but I thought I'd throw it out there anyway.

That's not the way my mother said it. She clearly knew spit would be hard to hold so she used what comes out the other end.

Are you sure he said spit? or did you mean to substitute another letter for the "p"

Servo Suggestion

I'm pretty much through the major parts of the build and had to skip the servo installation due to ZERO inventory of the Hitec 7245.

I've written to Hitec requesting an approximate ETA for the HS-7245MH servo but no reply yet.

The only viable solution I can come up with is a few alternatives, please give your 2 cents on my options.

My flying will be limited to "light" 3D and more precision flying. I have yet (probably never will) become very good at 3D.

1 - Hitec, HS-7235MH, 50 oz. torque $60.00 ea.
2 - Spektrum, A5060, 98 oz. torque $60.00 ea
3 - JR, DS3421, 65 oz. torque $89.00 ea.

I have the 5245s in my Extra, and for my flying skills ( similar to what you want to do ) work perfectly fine. The Extra also was my first 60" E/F plane, so it has been flown the most, and have never had an issue with them

These and Savox SV-1250mg are both excellent affordable high voltage servos.

The 7245MH are certainly better, but I had the 5245MG in my Extra for two years, my MXS for three years and both those sets have been serviced and are now in my Edge and Yak. They work really well and are the way to go if you are on a budget.

This is an old video of my first Extra, but it used the 5245MGs. If you are going to fly harder than this you might need better servos, but like this the 5246MGs were fine. They held up fine and performed well.

Thanks for the input fellas.

My first choice is the Hitec 7245, but with no no ETA in sight I have no idea if and when they will arrive. I called Extreme Flight and they shared my frustration about the lack of availability for the 7245's.

I ended up ordering (4) Hitec HS 5245MG from Horizon, $36.00 each, no freight.

Parts ID

The parts were included in the 60" 300 EXP kit.

Can you please help me identify the items in the picture attached. I have an idea where the white adapters go, I believe it covers the landing gear. Also can you please explain what the black hose does and what's with the balsa. I have no clue.

Thanks

The black hose goes on the white landing gear cuffs. It keeps the cuffs from scratching or poking a hole in the covering. The balsa pieces are to make baffling to direct air twards the motor. It attaches to the motorbox.

Check out this video starting at the 2 minute mark. It shows how the fairings go on. The only thing I do different is to use Black or Clear RTV instead of epoxy. My reason for doing this is to make the landing gear easier to remove and if you damage the landing gear it is easy to remove the fairings and be able to reuse them .
