Build Log
Ivan Twin Otter 480

Well! Here marks the official start of the Twin Otter 480 Build Thread.

The model will be based on G-BVVK the ex British Airways plane now in FlyBe colours used on the only UK scheduled airport service on a beach!!

Start progress will be slow until I some relaxation from work (4 different European cities over the next 4 weeks!) but should then speed up

Judging by the picture, you have obviously been watching Mike's Scooper and my Sealand taking off from grass without wheels and decided to go one better and take off from water without floats!

I look forward to following the build.

The is a lazer cut file Posted elsewhere in DFX format. I have converted it to a Tiled PDf for printing on A4

I am using this as basis for templates for cutting out parts

I don't know about that? There is no snow or ice on the land. And everything is green.

Good choice of a twin.

Pffttt.....Always knew those Twin Otters were fragile little toy planes.

Can't even build them strong enough to take off and land from a proper runway, they have to land in the soft, soft, sand so they don't fall apart. You'd think after all this time in aviation they'd learn to build something more robust and versatile. Jessh. Silly T-Otters.

Pssstt....very cool video. :-P

A nice pattern perhaps, but covering a plane with the rug from my study floor, probably a bit on the heavy side, must weigh about 2lbs per square meter!!!!

After a long lay off some progress. Tail group complete, stab, Fin and rudder, wing well under way, fitting motor wires before top sheeting and fitting led landing and nav lights.

I have bent up and soldered the UC and have accumulated all the HW to finish.

Pilot Hamish is ready to take the control, fresh out of Flybe flight school, ready for for the 40 mile trip from Benbacula to Barra Beach in South Uist in the Scottish Islands. Co Pilot Jock still in Flight Training School!! (TBC)
